Design and principle of operation of the parking brake (VAZ-2105)

            0

All VAZ models have a similar, interchangeable parking brake drive, although the parking brake drive lever and the protective cover of the lever on VAZ cars differ in appearance. The parking brake drive is mechanical and acts on the brake mechanisms of the rear wheels. Its design is shown in fig. 192 and (206). The drive includes lever 11 (3), which is connected via a return lever and a pin to the front cable 31 (2), guide 29 (9) of the rear cable 25 (14), lever 7 (see fig. 203) manual brake shoe drive and spacer bar 8. Front cable 31 (2) (see fig. 192, 206) has a threaded tip that passes through the hole in the guide 29 (9) of the rear cable. The tip of the front cable is connected to the body bracket via a spring (11). This connection ensures that the drive cables return to their original position when the parking brake lever is released. The middle part of the rear cable passes through the groove in the guide 29 (9), the tension of which is adjusted by nut 27, fixed by lock nut 26. A spacer sleeve 28 (10) is installed between the guide 29 and nut 27. The ends of the rear cable pass through a casing, each branch of which is attached at one end to the brake shield, and the other is installed in the grooves of the body brackets. At the rear ends of the cable there are tips, each of which is connected to the hook of lever 7 (see fig. 203) manual brake pad drive.

Fig. 206. Parking brake drive parts:
1 - case; 2 - front cable; 3 - lever; 4 - button; 5 - spring; 6 - latch rod; 7 - bushing; 8 - roller; 9 - rear cable guide; 10 - spacer sleeve; 11 - release spring; 12 - spacer bar; 13 - manual brake pad drive lever; 14 - rear cable; 15 - rear cable mounting bracket.

This lever is hinged to the brake shoe with a finger and rests against the groove of the spacer bar 8. The brake shoe enters the opposite groove of the bar.

When lever 11 is raised (see fig. 192), the front and rear drive cables are tensioned. In this case, lever 7 (see fig. 203), rotating on the pin, through the spacer bar 8, it will first press one shoe to the brake drum, and then, rotating relative to the point of contact with the spacer bar and acting as a two-arm lever, it will press the other shoe to the drum.
