The hinges of the lower arms are pressed in using the spacer A.74177 (pic. 166), clamped in a vice, and fixture A.74177/1 3. Install the lever with axle 1 on fixture 2, put the hinge on the axle and press it into the hinge seat using fixture 3. Then, using the same techniques, press in the second hinge.
Install tool 1 A.47046 on the upper arm (pic. 167) when pressing out the hinges so that the head of the screw of tool 1 is directed inward. Press out hinge 2 by tightening the screw of the tool. To press in the hinge, use the same tool only complete with cap 3 (pic. 168). Having installed the hinge 2 in the socket of the lever, tighten the screw of the device 1 until the hinge is completely pressed.
Install the car on a lift or inspection ditch and hang the front of the car from the side where the replacement will be made; remove the wheel. Having unscrewed the nut, press out the pin of the spherical joint of the steering rod with the puller A.47052 and take the free end of the side rod back. Loosen the nuts securing the lower suspension arm to the axle and remove the washers from both ends of the axle. Set glass 3 (pic. 169, a) tool 02.7823.9500 on the lever shelf 4 and screw the screw 1 onto the end of the shaft 6.
Holding the screw 1 with a knob and turning the nut 2, slide the eye of the lever from the outer race of the hinge. Remove the tool and press hinge 5 off the lever axis. With a mounting spatula on the lever lug in a position concentric with the lever axis, insert the new pivot into the hole in the lug and slide onto the axle. Put ring 8 on the end of the axle (pic. 169b) tool 02.7823.9501 and set the stop between shelf 9 and the nearest nut for attaching the axle to the front suspension cross member. Turning the nut 7 and holding the stop 11, press the new hinge 10 into the eye of the lever. Then remove the fixture, install the washer and nut securing the lever to the axle. Do not tighten the nut. Similarly, replace the other rubber-to-metal joints of the lower suspension arms. After replacing the joints, connect the tie rod to the steering knuckle arm, tighten and cotter the tie rod ball stud nut, install and secure the wheel.
Replace the hinges of the upper suspension arms using tool A.47046 in the same way as on the removed arms, in the following order:
- put the car on a lift or inspection ditch and hang the front of the car from the side where the replacement will be made, then remove the wheel;
- unscrew the nut of the upper arm axle and, having removed the axle, turn the arm with the lugs outward;
- install on the lever a glass of fixture A.47046 with a nut and a bolt with a head inside the lever. Turning the nut, press out the hinge and remove the fixture and hinge. Insert a new hinge into the eye of the lever, install tool A.47046 (see fig. 167) so that the cap of the tool is under the nut. Rotate the nut, press the hinge and remove the fixture. Similarly, replace the hinges of the upper suspension arms.
After replacing the hinges, turn the upper arm with the lugs towards the front end, slide it onto the front, insert the upper arm axle, install the axle washer and nut without completely tightening it. Then install the wheels, lower the car and tighten the nuts of the axles of the levers, carrying out all the operations described in the section «Installing the suspension on the car».
After replacement rubber-metal hinges should be «knead», having made a trial run of 15-20 km. Then check and, if necessary, adjust the angles of the front wheels.
