The arrow of the temperature indicator is constantly at the beginning of the scale
Causes of the malfunction and how to fix it:
- instrument sensor defective. Preheat the engine, turn on the ignition, disconnect the wire from the sensor (it is mounted on the cylinder head) and touch the metal parts of the engine with the tip of this wire. If the pointer arrow deviates, then the sensor is faulty and must be replaced;
- the wires are damaged or their lugs are oxidized. If, when connecting the sensor wire lug to «weight» the arrow does not deviate, then remove the instrument cluster without disconnecting the wire blocks from it, turn on the ignition and connect to «weight» the upper terminal of the temperature gauge, which is connected to plug 2 (see fig. 132) white block of the instrument cluster. The deviation of the pointer needle in this case will indicate damage to the green wires with a white stripe connecting the sensor to the pointer. Check wires and their connections, replace damaged wires;
- temperature gauge defective. If, when connected to «weight» the upper output of the pointer, its arrow does not deviate, then it does not work and must be replaced.
The pointer of the temperature gauge is constantly at the end of the scale
Causes of the malfunction and how to fix it:
- damaged device sensor. Turn on the ignition and disconnect the wire from the sensor. If the arrow of the device returns to the beginning of the scale, then the sensor is faulty and must be replaced;
- short circuit «mass» green wires with a white stripe connecting the sensor to the pointer. If, when the wire is disconnected from the sensor, the pointer arrow does not return to the beginning of the scale, then the instrument cluster must be removed, the wires must be disconnected from its white (right) pads and connect with «weight» plug 5 (rice. 132) this block, and the plug is 12 with «a plus» battery. If at the same time the arrow deviates to the beginning of the scale, then the device is working, and in the wires connecting it to the sensor, there is a short to «mass». Inspect wires, replace or insulate damaged ones;
- temperature gauge damaged. If the pointer does not return to the beginning of the scale during the test described above, then the pointer is defective and must be replaced.
The arrow of the fuel gauge is constantly at the beginning of the scale
Causes of the malfunction and how to fix it:
- pointer sensor defective. Tilt the rear seat cushion forward, fold the floor mat and remove the floor hatch cover above the fuel gauge sensor. Turn on the ignition, disconnect the wiring harness from the sensor and connect to «weight» pink wire end in this block. If the arrow of the device deviates, then the sensor is damaged. Remove the sensor and inspect its parts. Check whether there is a break in the flexible bus or the winding of the sensor resistor and whether the contact of the current collector with the resistor is reliable. Solder the broken busbar and, if necessary, bend the current collector to ensure reliable contact with the resistor. If there is an open in the resistor, then replace the sensor;
- the wires connecting the sensor to the pointer are damaged, or their connections are oxidized. If, when connected to «weight» tip of the pink wire, the pointer arrow does not deviate, then remove the instrument cluster without disconnecting the wire blocks from it, turn on the ignition and connect to «weight» the lower output of the fuel gauge, which is connected to plug 13 (see fig. 132) white block of the instrument cluster. If the arrow deviates, then the device is working, and the wires connecting it to the sensor are damaged. Check wires and their connections, replace damaged wires;
- Faulty fuel gauge. If during the test described above the pointer does not deviate, then it is defective and must be replaced.
The arrow of the fuel gauge is constantly at the end of the scale
Causes of the malfunction and how to fix it:
- short circuit «mass» in the pointer sensor. To check with the ignition on, disconnect the wire block from the sensor. If the arrow returns to the beginning of the scale, then the sensor really has a short circuit to «mass». Remove the sensor and inspect it. Check if the flexible bus is shorted to the fuel intake pipe. Eliminate short circuit;
- short circuit «mass» in wires (pink and pink with red stripe), connecting the sensor to the pointer. If, when the wires are disconnected from the sensor, the arrow does not return to the beginning of the scale, then remove the instrument cluster, disconnect the right (white) block of wires and connect with «weight» plug 5 (rice. 132) white block of the instrument cluster, and the plug is 12 with «a plus» battery. If at the same time the arrow deviates to the beginning of the scale, then there is a short circuit in the wires connecting the sensor to the pointer. Check the wires, eliminate the short circuit;
- pointer is damaged. When carrying out the above test, the arrow does not deviate to the beginning of the scale. Replace faulty fuel gauge.
The needle of the fuel gauge moves in jumps and often falls to the top of the scale
The most likely causes are weak contact of the sensor resistor with the current collector or a break in the sensor resistor winding. Remove the sensor and inspect it. Bend the current collector, replace the sensor if there is a break in the resistor winding.
The fuel reserve warning lamp is constantly on
Causes of the malfunction and how to fix it:
- short circuit of the flexible bus of the sensor with the fuel intake tube. With the ignition on, disconnect the wires from the fuel gauge sensor. If the lamp goes out, then there is a short circuit in the sensor. Remove it and eliminate the short circuit;
- short circuit «mass» in the wires connecting the control lamp to the sensor. If the lamp does not go out when the wires are disconnected from the sensor, then you need to check the wires and eliminate the short to «mass».
The fuel reserve warning lamp does not light up
Causes of the malfunction and how to fix it:
- the sensor contacts are oxidized or do not close. With the ignition on, disconnect the wires from the sensor and connect the tip of the blue wire with the red stripe to «weight». If the lamp lights up, then remove the sensor, clean its contacts, bend the movable contact;
- control lamp burnt out. If, when connecting the tip of the blue wire with the red stripe to «weight» the lamp does not light up, then remove the instrument cluster and check the lamp. Replace the burnt out lamp;
- the wires connecting the lamp to the sensor are damaged, or their tips are oxidized. If the lamp and sensor are OK, and the lamp does not light, then check the blue wires with a red stripe connecting the sensor to the test lamp. Replace damaged wires.
Speedometer not working
Causes of the malfunction and how to fix it:
- the nuts securing the flexible shaft on the speedometer or on its drive have loosened. Remove the instrument cluster, check the tightness of the nuts, tighten them if necessary;
- breakage of the flexible shaft of the speedometer. Replace damaged shaft;
- the speedometer mechanism is damaged. Have the speedometer checked and replaced if necessary by a workshop.
Speedometer flexible shaft noise
Causes of the malfunction and how to fix it:
- the shell of the flexible shaft is deformed. Examine her; if it has dents, kinks, etc., replace the flexible shaft;
- the installation of the flexible shaft is made with bending radii less than 100 mm. Check and, if necessary, correct the installation of the flexible shaft.
The parking brake warning light does not come on
Causes of the malfunction and how to fix it:
- control lamp burnt out. Remove the instrument cluster and replace the lamp;
- oxidation of the contacts of the relay-breaker of the parking brake. Remove the relay cover (it is installed on the back of the instrument cluster), clean the contacts, eliminate the gap between them;
- the switch of a control lamp is faulty. Disconnect the wire from the switch located under the parking brake lever, turn on the ignition and connect the wire end to «weight». If the lamp lights up, then clean the contacts of the switch or replace it;
- the wires connecting the switch to the instrument cluster are damaged. If the lamp does not light on the previous test, then check the brown wires with a blue stripe connecting the switch to the instrument cluster. Replace damaged wires.
The parking brake warning lamp does not flash (constantly on)
The reason is only a break in the winding of the breaker relay. Using an ohmmeter or a test lamp, check if the circuit between the plugs is good «—» and «+» breaker relay. If the circuit is faulty, replace the breaker relay.
