To bleed your brakes you will need:
- assistant;
- a special wrench for the brake bleeder or an 8 mm ring wrench;
- transparent vinyl tube of suitable diameter;
- container for draining brake fluid from the brake system;
- fresh brake fluid recommended by the manufacturer (see table. 16.4 "Operating fluids").
- viewing hole or flyover (desirable).
Execution sequence
1. We prepare the car for work (see items 1, 2b and 4 "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").
2. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the brake fluid level emergency drop sensor connector and remove the reservoir cap (see points 1 and 2 "Brake fluid low level sensor - check and replace")
Warning. To prevent air from entering the hydraulic drive of the brake system while bleeding the brakes, make sure that the level of brake fluid in the brake reservoir does not fall below the mark «MIN».
3. We clean the fitting of the brake cylinder of the rear right wheel and the surface around it from dirt.
4. Remove the protective rubber cap from the brake bleeder.
5. We put a special or 8 mm spanner wrench on the brake bleeder, and then a transparent vinyl tube (the diameter of the tube must be such that it fits snugly on the brake bleeder). We lower the other end of the tube into a transparent container partially filled with brake fluid.
6. The assistant presses the brake pedal several times and, after the last pressing, holds the brake pedal in the lower position.
7. Having loosened the fitting, unscrew it approximately half a turn until the fluid starts to exit the fitting.
8. After the brake fluid stops coming out of the tube, we wrap the fitting for bleeding the brakes.
9. The assistant again presses the brake pedal several times and keeps it pressed.
10. We repeat the steps described in paragraph 7.
11. Bleeding the brakes should be carried out until the release of brake fluid with air bubbles from the cylinder fitting stops, after which we finally tighten the fitting for bleeding the brakes.
12. Remove the vinyl tube and the spanner wrench from the brake bleeder fitting, put a protective rubber cap on the fitting.
13. Then we pump the brake cylinder of the front left wheel.
14. Similarly, we pump the cylinders of the second circuit: the rear left and front right wheels in the indicated order, monitoring the level of brake fluid in the reservoir of the main brake cylinder.
15. By pressing the brake pedal, we check the operation of the hydraulic drive and the absence of fluid leakage from the brake bleeder fittings.
If the brake pedal «soft» or it falls below its normal operating position, then we re-confirm the tightness of the system and repeat bleeding the brakes.
Brake Fluid Replacement carried out in the same way as bleeding the brakes (see above) for some difference.
1. With a pear, we select the working brake fluid from the reservoir of the main brake cylinder.
2. Pour new fluid into the brake reservoir up to the upper edge of the reservoir.
3. We pump the contours of the system, starting from the rear wheels of the car in the above sequence.
4. We carry out bleeding of each wheel brake cylinder before the start of the release of a new (lighter) brake fluid from the brake bleeder.
