There are many ways to reduce fuel consumption: improving roads, creating economical engines. This is a problem for scientists and the government. A great effect is the increase in driving culture, which depends on each driver and the organization of traffic, and in the latter issue the driver plays an important role.
According to a number of studies, experienced drivers who have been behind the wheel for more than 15 years consume 17% less fuel than a novice. First of all, a quiet ride. If you adhere to the general rhythm in the traffic flow, if you do not quickly accelerate and do not brake sharply, then much less fuel will be consumed. This is a must for all drivers.
You can constantly see how another driver, trying to win some seconds, turns the ride into a hassle for himself and other drivers. This style of driving is one example of driver illiteracy.
So, the most economical is the movement at a constant speed, without unnecessary accelerations and decelerations.
The more risky you drive, the more you pay to operate your car.
Try to maintain an economical speed that ensures proper engine operation and low fuel consumption. As speed increases, fuel and oil consumption increases.
Low speed cannot be considered economical, since it also increases fuel and oil consumption. The most economical is the operation of the engine at its maximum torque, which corresponds to 2/3 of the maximum speed. Therefore, for most passenger cars, the speed of 80-90 km / h is the most economical.
You need to learn how to shift gears correctly, use the inertia of your car more often, choose a movement with maximum torque. It is different for different transmissions. Shift gears at the right time to move in higher and, mainly, direct gears as often as possible.
Drive to your intended stop points with minimal use of the brakes.
Do not allow excess oil in the fuel and do not exceed the oil level in the crankcase - this is:
- increases fuel and oil consumption;
- reduces engine power;
- leads to rapid soot;
- oily candles do not work properly or fail;
- the neutralizer fails.
Don't overfill the tank and don't keep it nearly empty. In one and in the other case, its consumption increases.
Avoid driving on rough roads and in adverse weather. The least amount of fuel is consumed when driving on a horizontal road with a hard dry surface. When driving on poorly paved roads, rolling resistance increases and fuel consumption increases as a result (up to 20%).
Do not unnecessarily load or overload your vehicle. The main operational parameters that characterize the engine are the maximum speed and the permissible load capacity of the vehicle. The permissible carrying capacity of a passenger car is determined by the number of passengers carried and the weight of luggage. If the vehicle is carrying more than its load capacity, the engine runs at full power, resulting in up to 25% more fuel consumption.
You should not carry unnecessary luggage in the car, even an empty trunk that has not been removed from the car leads to an increase in fuel consumption of up to 5%.
Take care of your car so that it is not too «voracious», do not leak fuel lines, fuel tank, fuel system. Pollution of the power supply system, overheating of the engine lead to the formation of vapor-air locks in the fuel lines. Periodically clean the carburetor, fuel tank and injectors. You will see so much dirt in them that you will be surprised: where does it come from?
Air filter contamination, deposits on the walls of combustion chambers and cylinders create additional difficulties for the normal operation of the engine. Driving resistance increases due to low tire pressure. The load of the whole car goes to the edges of the tires, the car cannot reach the maximum speed. Fuel consumption is rising.
The driver must always keep in mind: correct driving contributes not only to increased safety, but also to economical driving.
