ATTENTION! In the variant version the car can be equipped with either a heating and ventilation system or an air conditioning system.
The vehicle's heating and ventilation system is designed to create a comfortable air temperature in the passenger compartment, the set value of which is maintained by the controller 10 (see fig. 38) automatic heater control systems (AHS). However, it cannot provide a temperature in the cabin lower than the outside air.

In the variant version, the heating and ventilation unit has an air filter. The air filter is located in the air intake box and is designed to clean the air entering the car from dust, pollen, soot and small insects.
The filter is replaced at certified PSSS every 15,000 km (when operating on dusty roads - as needed). It is not recommended to operate the vehicle without an air filter.
ATTENTION! Correct use of the controls of the heating and ventilation system in accordance with the recommendations below allows you to increase driving safety by quickly cleaning the glass from snow and ice, as well as eliminating their fogging. Remember - quick cleaning of the glass and the most effective heating of the passenger compartment are possible only with a fully warmed up engine!

Controls
Handle 16 is used to set the desired air temperature in the cabin. For this purpose, handle 16 must be set opposite the corresponding digital value from "16" to "28" on scale 17, indicating the temperature in degrees Celsius. In the specified range, the air temperature in the cabin will be maintained automatically within the heater's performance and the set tolerance. When the fan speed is changed or turned off, the automatic mode of the system is maintained.
In the extreme positions of handle 16, indicated on scale 17 by blue and red dots, the supply of air without heating or maximally heated air is ensured. Temperature regulation is not performed.
Switch 15 is used to control the fan of the heating and ventilation system. The volume of air supplied to the passenger compartment is regulated by switching the fan speeds. The number of fan speeds is three, in the variant version - four, the first is the minimum, the third or fourth is the maximum. In the switch position "0" the fan does not work, there is no supply of fresh air to the passenger compartment.
ATTENTION! When the car is moving, the heater fan must always be on at least the first speed to create excess pressure in the cabin (to prevent dust and dirt from getting in through gaps in the body), and also to prevent the glass from fogging up.
In position "A" of switch 15, the automatic control system SAUO, in order to ensure the set temperature and accelerate the heating of the air in the cabin, automatically selects one of two fan speeds corresponding to positions "1" and "2" on scale 14.
The air damper control lever 9 is used to distribute the air supply. If the lever 9 is installed opposite the pictogram
Button 8 (installed in a variant design) serves to activate the air recirculation mode. When button 8 is pressed, the supply of outside air to the heating and ventilation unit is stopped and air is taken from the passenger compartment. Using the recirculation mode prevents unpleasant odors from entering the passenger compartment, for example, when driving in a traffic jam or in a tunnel.
CAUTION! The recirculation mode can only be switched on for a short time, since fresh air does not enter the passenger compartment and the windows may fog up.
Vehicles that are not equipped with an air recirculation system are equipped with an air filter.
Nozzles 2 and 6 can be opened or closed separately. To close a nozzle, it is necessary to move the corresponding lever 3 or 7 all the way to the right. By moving the levers 3 or 7 left-right, as well as up-down, it is possible to change the direction of the air flow in the horizontal or vertical planes, respectively.
Nozzles 21 serve to prevent fogging of the lower part of the windshield.
Button 5 is used to turn on the rear window heating in case of fogging or freezing. When the heating is on, the control lamp 4 lights up orange. To turn off the heating, press button 5 again.
CAUTION! To ensure effective heating of the rear part of the passenger compartment, do not block the nozzles 13 located under the front seats.
Interior ventilation
To provide ventilation of the passenger compartment (supplying it with unheated fresh air) it is necessary to set the controls of the heating and ventilation system to the following position:
- turn handle 16 counterclockwise until it stops (blue dot on scale 17). (In most cases, it is enough to leave the handle 16 at the desired temperature value on the scale 17, the controller will keep the damper completely closed until the set temperature in the cabin is reached);
- nozzles 2 and 6 open, the recommended position of levers 3 and 7 is the uppermost;
- set lever 9 to position
; - set switch 15 to the desired speed;
- if the windshield fogs up, set lever 9 to position
.
Preventing fogging of glass
When the air humidity is high, such as during rain, the car windows may fog up. To prevent fogging of the windshield and front door windows, do the following:
- set knob 16 to the desired air heating level;
- set lever 9 to position
; - switch 15 set to maximum speed;
- additionally, heated air can be directed through nozzles 2 to the front door windows; to do this, blades 19 must be oriented to the extreme upper position, and flaps 20 to the central part of the front door windows; close the central nozzles.
When the air humidity is high, especially in extreme conditions of heavy rains of a prolonged nature, the car windows may fog up. To prevent fogging of the windshield and front door windows under these conditions, do the following:
- set handle 16 clockwise to position "20...24";
- set lever 9 to position
; - set switch 15 to second speed.
Cleaning glass from snow and ice
To quickly clear the windshield and front door windows of snow and ice, it is recommended to set the controls to the following positions:
- turn handle 16 clockwise until it stops (red dot on scale 17). (In most cases, it is enough to leave the handle 16 at the desired temperature value on the scale 17, the controller will keep the damper fully open until the set temperature in the cabin is reached - by this time the windows will be cleared);
- set lever 9 to position
; - switch 15 set to maximum speed;
- direct the air flow through nozzles 2 onto the front door windows (see above), close the central nozzles.
Quickly warms up the interior and ensures a comfortable air temperature in the interior
- set knob 16 to the desired temperature value on scale 17;
- set switch 15 to position "A" or "2" (in a variant design). To increase performance or prevent glass fogging, it is recommended to use the maximum fan speed;
- use lever 9 to set the desired air flow distribution;
- open the side nozzles 2, close the central nozzles 6.
The automatic control system will ensure that the interior is heated to a specified temperature at maximum speed and that the temperature is maintained at a specified level within the heater's performance and the established tolerance.
CAUTION! To ensure efficient operation of the heating and ventilation system, regularly clear the fresh air intake openings located in front of the windshield of snow, ice and leaves.
Do not allow the humidity in the car to increase due to the evaporation of water and snow from carpets and rubber mats, clean them in a timely manner. Keep the car windows clean, because dirty windows retain more moisture, increasing the time it takes to defrost.
Do not block the exhaust air outlets in the rear trim of the luggage compartment. On LADA 110 cars, do not block the gap between the luggage rack and the rear window, which serves to remove exhaust air.
When the heating system is operating at maximum mode, it is not recommended to open windows.
Features of climate control
The climate control system provides both heating and cooling of the air in the car. The operation of the air conditioner reduces not only the air temperature in the car, but also its humidity, thereby preventing fogging of the windows, especially when the outside air humidity is high.
To turn on the air conditioner with the engine running and the windows closed, press button 18, set the ventilation mode. To turn off the air conditioner, press button 18 again.
ATTENTION! The air conditioner operates only when the engine is running, the outside air temperature is above +10°C and the fan is turned on to one of the positions on the scale 14.
To set the desired air temperature in the cabin, as with heating, turn the handle 16: clockwise - warmer, counterclockwise - colder. The temperature will be maintained automatically within the performance of the air conditioning system and the set tolerance.
ATTENTION! In lever position 9at least one of the nozzles 2 or 6 must be open, otherwise the air cooling heat exchanger may freeze.
To speed up the cooling of the air in the cabin, you can briefly turn on the recirculation mode by pressing button 8, which stops the flow of outside air into the climate control system and takes air from the cabin. Using the recirculation mode also prevents unpleasant odors from entering the cabin, for example, when driving in a traffic jam or in a tunnel.
CAUTION! The recirculation mode can only be switched on for a short time, since no outside air enters the passenger compartment and the windows may fog up.
Economical operation of the air conditioning system
The air conditioner compressor is driven by the engine, so its operation in air cooling mode significantly affects fuel consumption. To reduce the time of using the air conditioner as much as possible, it is necessary to do the following.
If the interior of a parked car has become very hot due to solar radiation, it is necessary to ventilate it before driving by briefly opening the windows or doors.
You must not turn on the air conditioner if the car windows are open while driving.
If a comfortable air temperature inside the car can be achieved without turning on the refrigeration unit, then it is better to use the interior ventilation mode.
ATTENTION! An air filter is installed in the air intake of the heating and ventilation system of LADA 110 family cars.
When driving in heavy rain with the heater fan on, the filter may become wet, which will result in humidified air being supplied to the passenger compartment and fogging up the windows. If you must continue driving in heavy rain, wipe the windows, reduce the fan speed and drive only if the windows are clear.
As a rule, during moderate rainfalls, typical for the Russian Federation, there are no problems with fogging of the windows.
After the rain stops, the filter dries in natural conditions in 2-3 hours, with the fan running - in 30-40 minutes. When dry, the filter fully restores its functionality.
Fogging of glass during heavy rainfall does not occur on cars equipped with a climate control system. LADA 110 family cars with climate control systems are manufactured by AVTOVAZ in accordance with market demands.
