According to the manufacturer's recommendation, the fuel filter must be replaced after every 30,000 km.
Warning: Before starting work on replacing the fuel filter, read the safety rules for working with the fuel system (see "Safety precautions when servicing and repairing a car").
Removal
1. We prepare the vehicle for work (see points 2b and 4 "Preparing a car for maintenance and repair").
Recommendation: If there is no inspection pit or overpass, this work can be done on a level surface. But in this case, the rear of the car must be lifted.
2. Relieve the pressure in the fuel line (see "Fuel line - pressure relief").
Warning: The fuel line pressure should be relieved even if the vehicle has not been driven for a long time. A small amount of fuel remains in the fuel line after the pressure has been relieved.
3. Wipe the fuel filter and the fuel line tubes connected to it with a cloth. Treat the thread of the filter clamp tightening bolt with penetrating lubricant.
Recommendation. Before disconnecting the tube tip from the fuel filter, prepare a small wide container with a capacity of at least 0.5 l to drain the remaining gasoline from the fuel line. To completely remove the fuel, unscrew the valve from the fuel rail or open its valve (see "Fuel rail - checking operating pressure").
4. On a car with a VAZ 2112 engine (l,5i):
a) Using a 19 mm open-end wrench, hold the fuel filter from turning by the hexagonal pipe, and use a second 17 mm open-end wrench to unscrew the fuel supply line nipple (1).
b) Similarly, disconnect the fuel outlet line fitting (2).
Warning: The ends of the fuel lines are fitted with rubber sealing rings. Damaged rings must be replaced.
On a car with a VAZ 21124 engine (l,6i):
a) Press the spring lock.
b) While holding the lock in the pressed position, remove the connecting tip of the fuel line tube from the outlet pipe of the fuel filter.
c) Similarly, remove the connecting tip of the fuel line tube from the inlet pipe of the fuel filter.
5. Using a 10 mm wrench, unscrew the clamp bolt of the fuel filter mounting clamp.
6. Remove the fuel filter from the clamp.
Installation
We install a new fuel filter and all removed parts on the car in the reverse order.
Warning. Pay attention to the arrow on the fuel filter housing indicating the direction of fuel flow. On a car with a 2112 engine, engine (1.5i) the arrow should point to the left, and on a car with a 21124 engine (1.6i) - to the right side.
After connecting the fuel line tubes to the fuel filter, turn on the ignition for 5 seconds and check the tightness of the connections. If fuel leaks, replace the sealing rings in the leaky fuel line connections.
