16 valve engines
To do the job, you will need a special tool to hold the camshaft pulleys.
Comment. The work can be done without this device. It is possible to unscrew the bolts of the camshaft pulleys, as a rule, without difficulty
Execution sequence
1. We prepare the car for work (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").
2. Remove the front timing belt cover (see "Timing belt - replacement").
3. If there is a special tool to hold the camshaft pulleys, remove the timing belt (see "Timing belt - replacement") and, alternately holding the camshaft pulleys with this tool, with a key by 17 mm we unscrew the bolts of their fastening.
If there is no fixture, a socket wrench by 17 mm loosen the bolts of the camshaft pulleys, holding the key at 17 or 19 mm crankshaft from turning by the bolt of its pulley (or by engaging fourth gear and setting the machine on the parking brake).
4. Remove the timing belt (see "Timing belt - replacement").
5. We turn away bolts of fastening of pulleys and we remove a pulley of a shaft of inlet valves.
6. Remove the exhaust valve shaft pulley.
7. In order not to lose, we take out the keys from the grooves of the shafts.
8. We install the pulleys in the reverse order, while making sure that the keys are included in the grooves of the pulleys. After installing the pulleys, install the timing belt (see "Timing belt - replacement") and adjust the tension (see "Timing belt - checking the condition and adjusting the tension").
8-valve engines
To complete the work you will need: socket wrench by 10 mm, key by 17 mm.
Execution sequence
1. Remove the timing belt (see "Timing belt - replacement").
2. socket wrench by 10 mm, put on the nut of the rear cover of the timing belt, hold the camshaft pulley from turning, with a key by 17 mm unscrew the bolt securing the pulley.
3. Remove the pulley from the shaft.
4. Remove the key from the groove.
Warning! When performing the following operation, do not scratch the working surface of the shaft
5. Install the pulley in the reverse order, while
make sure that the key is in the groove of the pulley. After installing the pulley, install the timing belt (see "Timing belt - replacement") and adjust the tension (see "Timing belt - checking the condition and adjusting the tension").
