Exhaust manifold of engine 2112 (1.5i 16v) — removal and installation, replacement of gasket (VAZ-2112)

The 2112 engine has a cast iron exhaust manifold (2). It is secured to the cylinder head with nuts on eight studs. A two-layer metal gasket is installed between the manifold inlet flange and the head mating plane. The manifold is covered with a metal screen (4) from above. The screen is secured to the manifold with three nuts (1) on studs. The manifold is connected to the intake pipe from below (see Fig. "Exhaust system").



To carry out the work you will need an inspection pit and an overpass.

Sequence of execution

1. Prepare the car for work (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").

2. Treat the threaded connections of the exhaust manifold with penetrating lubricant.

3. Remove the exhaust pipe (see "Engine intake pipe 2112 (1.5i 16v) - removal and installation").

4. With a socket wrench by 13 mm we unscrew the three nuts securing the protective screen and remove the protective screen.

5. With a socket wrench by 13 mm unscrew the two nuts securing the coolant pump supply pipe bracket and remove the bracket (see below, "Exhaust manifold of engine 21124 (1.6i 16v) - removal and installation, gasket replacement").



6. With a socket wrench by 13 mm unscrew the eight nuts securing the exhaust manifold and remove the manifold from the studs (see below, "Exhaust manifold of engine 21124 (1.6i 16v) - removal and installation, gasket replacement").

7. Remove the manifold gasket from the studs (see below, "Exhaust manifold of engine 21124 (1.6i 16v) - removal and installation, gasket replacement").

Replace the manifold gasket with a new one. Install the exhaust manifold in the reverse order. Tightening torque of the manifold mounting nuts is 24.5-25.8 N·m (2.5-2.6 kgf·m).
