Note: The work is shown on a car with a 21124 engine. The specifics of replacing spark plugs on a car with a 2112 engine are specified in the text.
We replace spark plugs according to the manufacturer's recommendations every 30,000 km or when they fail or the engine starts to run unstably.
To perform the work you will need: a special socket wrench for spark plugs by 16 mm with an extension. The head of the key must have a rubber sleeve installed that holds the spark plug.
Sequence of execution
1. On a car with engine 21124 remove the ignition coil of the first cylinder (see "Ignition coils of engine 21124 (1.6i 16v) - checking and replacement"). On a car with a 2112 engine remove the high-voltage wires from the spark plugs (see "High-voltage wires of the 2112 engine (1.5i 16v) - checking and replacement").
2. With a spark plug socket wrench by 16 mm we unscrew the candle and remove it from the socket.
3. Remove the spark plug from the key head.
4. Before installing the spark plug, use a set of round feeler gauges to check the gap between its electrodes. The gap should be 1.0-1.1 mm.
Warning! Checking the gap with flat feeler gauges will give incorrect readings.
5. Adjust the gap by bending the side electrode.
Warning! To avoid damaging the threads in the cylinder head, first tighten the spark plug by hand and then tighten it by inserting the handle into the wrench extension. The spark plug tightening torque is 30-40 Nm.
We insert the spark plug into the key head and screw it into the cylinder head.
We replace the spark plugs of the remaining cylinders in the same way.
