Removal and installation the front axle (VAZ-21213)

Place the vehicle on a lift or inspection pit and raise the front of the vehicle.

Remove the anti-roll bar, suspension crossmember braces and engine sump guard. Disconnect the shock absorbers from the lower suspension arms and the front propeller shaft from the front axle reduction gear pinion flange.

Having compressed the suspension spring, disconnect the ball joint from the lower arm and remove the spring, smoothly unloading it. Disconnect the steering rods from the steering arms.

Remove the cap and unscrew the wheel hub bearing nut.

Perform the same operations on the other end of the suspension.

Loosen the clamp connecting the inlet pipe to the muffler pipe, disconnect the suspension of the pipes and mufflers at the rear of the car and on the gearbox.

Using key 02.7812.9500, unscrew the nuts securing the muffler inlet pipe to the exhaust manifold and remove the pipe downwards.

Loosen the nuts securing the front engine mount cushions to the suspension crossmember brackets.

While supporting the front axle, unscrew the right bracket mounting bolt 22 (fig. 3-81) to the engine and two nuts securing the front axle on the left side.

Having raised the engine by 25-30 mm, remove the front axle assembly with the front wheel drives.

The front axle is installed on the vehicle in the reverse order of removal. When installing the axle, tighten the nuts and bolts to the torques specified in Appendix 1.

Pour transmission oil into the front axle housing through the oil filler hole; the oil level should reach the lower edge of the hole.
