Checking the technical condition of gearbox parts (VAZ-2101)

Before inspection, the gearbox parts are thoroughly washed and then checked for damage to the main transmission gear teeth and for the correct contact spots on the working surfaces of the teeth. If the teeth are damaged, the parts are replaced with new ones. If the engagement is incorrect, the cause is determined.

The satellites and the surface of their axle, the journals of the axle gears and their mounting holes in the differential box are inspected. Minor damage is eliminated by grinding with sandpaper of grain size from 10 to M40, and in case of serious damage, the parts are replaced with new ones.

Check the condition of the surface of the support washers of the axle gears. If even minor damage is detected, they are replaced. When replacing washers with new ones, they are selected according to thickness.

Inspect the bearings of the pinion and differential box. They should be free of wear, with smooth working surfaces. If there is the slightest doubt about their performance, the bearings are replaced. Poor condition of the bearings can be the cause of noise and seizing of the teeth.

Check for deformations or cracks in the differential housing and box. Replace them with new ones if necessary.
