Removing
Before removing, drain the oil from the rear axle housing and, having raised the rear of the car, place it on stands and remove the wheels. Unscrew the nuts securing the shield 1 of the brake to the beam (see fig. 79) and push the axle shafts so that they come out of the differential box. Having disconnected the cardan shaft from the gearbox, put a stand under the gearbox housing and unscrew the bolts of its fastening.
Installation
Before installing the gearbox, the axle beam is thoroughly cleaned of oil. A sealing gasket is placed on the mating surface, the gearbox is inserted into the beam and fixed. The thread of the bolts 19 is pre-lubricated with a sealant. Before applying the sealant, the bolts and holes are thoroughly degreased. Attach the cardan shaft to the gearbox, install the axle shafts, brake drums and wheels and screw the wheel bolts without tightening, after which the stands are removed. Lower the car and finally tighten the wheel bolts with a torque wrench. Fill the rear axle crankcase with oil, having previously cleaned the magnetic drain plug.
