Removal
Before removing, drain the oil from the rear axle housing and, having lifted the rear of the car, place it on stands and remove the wheels. Unscrew the nuts securing the 1 brake shield to the beam (see fig. 79) and extend the axle shafts so that they come out of the differential box. Having disconnected the cardan shaft from the gearbox, place a support under the gearbox housing and unscrew the bolts that secure it.
Installation
Before installing the reduction gear, the axle beam is thoroughly cleaned of oil. A sealing gasket is placed on the mating surface, the reduction gear is inserted into the beam and secured. The threads of bolts 19 are pre-lubricated with sealant. Before applying the sealant, the bolts and holes are thoroughly degreased. The cardan shaft is attached to the reduction gear, the axle shafts, brake drums and wheels are installed and the wheel mounting bolts are screwed on without tightening, after which the supports are removed. The car is lowered and the wheel mounting bolts are finally tightened with a torque wrench. The rear axle housing is filled with oil, after cleaning the magnetic drain plug.
