Car VAZ-21021
The VAZ-21021 car was equipped with the 21011 engine instead of the 2101. Therefore, the features of repairing the engine of this car are the same as those of the VAZ-21011, as described in subsection 13.1.2.1.
Car VAZ-21023
The VAZ-21023 used the 2103 engine with increased cylinder volume and power (see subsection 1.4). Therefore, the VAZ-21023 car has the best speed and dynamic performance.
The 2103 engine differs from the 2101 engine by an increased cylinder block height and a 7 mm larger crankshaft crank radius. Due to the greater cylinder block height, the camshaft drive chain length has been increased, the tensioner shoe and chain damper have been changed.
The 2103 engine cylinder block is easily distinguished by the model number cast on the left side of the cylinder block. The 2103 engine crankshaft has the marking "2103" on one of the cheeks of the middle main journal.
The chain of the 2103 engines has 116 links, i.e. an even number (58) of internal and external links. The chain of the 2101 and 21011 engines has 114 links, i.e. it has an odd number (57) of internal and external links. The evenness or oddness of the number of external links can be easily checked by adding both branches of the chain together.
The length of a new chain for 2103 engines is 495.4–495.8 mm. The chain is replaced if it has stretched to 499.5 mm (see subsection 3.12.7).
To distinguish the chain tensioner shoes, there is a mark in the form of a cylindrical recess on the end surface of the bracket welded to the shoe. For shoes of engines 2101 and 21011, the mark is located in the upper part of the bracket, and for shoes of engines 2103 - in the lower part.
To distinguish the chain guides of 2103 engines, they have a vertical protruding line 25 mm long on the surface of the rubber pad.
The 2103 engine is equipped with a 2107-1107010-20 carburetor, which differs in the following calibration data from the 2105-1107010-20 carburetor of the 2101 and 21011 engines:
- 1st chamber diffuser diameter, mm diameter: 22;
- main fuel jet 1st chamber, mm: 1.12;
- main fuel jet of the 2nd chamber, mm: 1.50.
Otherwise, the repair of the 2103 engine is similar to the repair of the 2101 engine.
