Removal and installation the engine (VAZ-2105)

            0

To remove the engine, place the car on a viewing pit or on a lift. Place chocks under the front wheels and lift the rear axle on one or both sides.
  • Remove the hood, disconnect the wires from the battery and from the electrical components installed on the engine;
  • remove the battery and underhood lamp;
  • drain the liquid from the radiator, cylinder block and heater, for which unscrew the plugs on the left side of the cylinder block and on the lower radiator tank, move the upper heater control lever to the right (they open the heater tap) and remove the plugs from the expansion tank and radiator. To avoid damaging the radiator, when unscrewing the drain plug, use a second wrench to hold the plug nipple soldered into the radiator. Unscrew the plug with a socket or open-end wrench to avoid tearing off the edges of the plug;
  • remove the fan shroud, disconnect the coolant inlet and outlet hoses from the engine and remove the radiator together with the thermostat and hoses;
  • remove the air filter, having previously disconnected the hoses from it, having removed the cover and the filter element. Close the carburetor with a technological plug;
  • loosen the nuts securing the muffler inlet pipe to the exhaust manifold, then remove the gearbox as described in section "Transmission".

Disconnect the carburetor throttle drive rod and the air damper control cable from the engine, as well as the fuel supply hose and the hoses leading to the heater.

Hang the TCO-3/379 crossbar on the hoist and secure the engine on the right side by the bracket installed on the front exhaust manifold mounting stud, and on the left side by the clutch housing mounting hole.

While slightly tightening the hoist chain, unscrew the nuts securing the cushions 9 (see fig. 2) front engine mount to the front suspension crossmember and remove the engine from the compartment.

Remove the starter heat shield, starter and hot air intake along with the supply hose.

Remove the two side brackets with the front engine mount cushions from the cylinder block. Unscrew the clutch mounting bolts and remove it.

Install the engine on the car in the reverse order of removal. Pay special attention to the connection of the engine to the gearbox: the drive shaft must fit precisely into the splines of the driven clutch disk.

After installing the engine, fill the cooling system with coolant. To do this, remove the plugs from the expansion tank and radiator and open the heater valve.

Pour 9.85 liters of coolant into the radiator and replace the radiator cap. Fill the liquid until it starts to overflow from the radiator neck. Then add the remaining liquid to the expansion tank and close it with the cap.

Start the engine and let it idle for 1-2 minutes to remove air locks. After the engine has cooled down, check the coolant level, which should be 3 cm above the min mark on the expansion tank. If the level is below normal, and there are no signs of leakage in the cooling system, then bring the level up to normal.

After connecting the air and throttle valve drives to the carburetor, adjust them as described in the "Engine Adjustments" section. Also check and, if necessary, adjust the tension of the alternator drive belt.

After installing the engine on the vehicle, carefully check the quality of the installation. Let the engine idle for a while, then check for coolant and fuel leaks at the pipe connections, and tighten the connections if necessary. Check that the electrical equipment wire contacts are secure and that the indicator lights on the instrument panel are working properly.
