- Remove the hood, disconnect the wires from the battery and from the electrical components installed on the engine;
- remove the battery and engine compartment lamp;
- drain the liquid from the radiator, cylinder block and heater, to do this, unscrew the plugs on the left side of the cylinder block and on the lower radiator tank, move the upper heater control lever to the right (they open the heater valve) and remove the plugs from the expansion tank and radiator. In order not to damage the radiator, when unscrewing the drain plug, hold the plug fitting soldered into the radiator with the second wrench. Unscrew the cork with a socket or spanner wrench so as not to rip off the edges of the cork;
- remove the fan cover, disconnect the coolant inlet and outlet hoses from the engine and remove the radiator together with the thermostat and hoses;
- remove the air filter by first disconnecting the hoses from it, removing the cover and filter element. Close the carburetor with a technological plug;
- unscrew the nuts securing the exhaust pipe of the mufflers to the exhaust manifold, and then remove the gearbox, proceeding as described in section «Transmission».
Disconnect the carburetor throttle actuator linkage and choke control cable from the engine, as well as the fuel supply hose and hoses leading to the heater.
Hang the TCO-3/379 traverse on the hoist and fasten the engine on the right side to the bracket mounted on the front exhaust manifold mounting stud, and on the left side to the clutch cover mounting hole.
Slightly pulling the hoist chain, unscrew the nuts securing the pillows 9 (see fig. 2) front engine mount to the front mount cross member and remove the engine from the compartment.
Remove the starter heat shield, starter and hot air intake along with the supply hose.
Remove the two side brackets with the front engine mounts from the cylinder block. Loosen the clutch mounting bolts and remove it.
Install the engine on the car in the reverse order of removal. Pay special attention to the connection of the engine with the gearbox: the drive shaft must fit exactly into the splines of the clutch disc.
After installing the engine, fill the cooling system with coolant. To do this, remove the plugs from the expansion tank and radiator and open the heater cock.
Pour 9.85 liters of coolant into the radiator and replace the radiator cap. Fill in the liquid until it spills out of the radiator neck. Then add the remaining fluid to the expansion tank and close it with a stopper.
Start the engine and let it idle for 1-2 minutes to remove air pockets. After the engine has cooled down, check the coolant level, which should be 3 cm above the min mark on the expansion tank. If the level is below normal, and there are no signs of leakage in the cooling system, then bring the level to normal.
After connecting the choke and throttle actuators to the carburetor, adjust them as described in section «Engine settings». Also check and, if necessary, adjust the tension of the alternator drive belt.
Having installed the engine on the car, carefully check the quality of the installation. Let the engine idle for a while and then check for coolant and fuel leaks at the pipe connections and tighten if necessary. Check if the contacts of the wires of the electrical equipment are reliable and if the signal lamps on the instrument panel work correctly.
