Pic. 86. Pressing out the pin of the ball joint of the steering rod from the swing arm of the suspension strut
Disconnect the suspension arm 1 from the bracket 4 of the body and remove the arm assembly with extension 8 and bracket 10. Unscrew the bolts 11 for fastening the guide pads to the steering knuckle 12, the caliper assembly with the pads is suspended on a technological hook to the body so that the hose is not loaded.
Taking aside and turning the rack 6, the splined shank of the constant velocity joint is removed from the wheel hub. From the side of the engine compartment, remove the protective cap of the support, unscrew the nuts 1 (see fig. 82) attaching the telescopic strut to the body and remove the front suspension strut assembly with the steering knuckle and wheel hub.
Performing these operations, remove the other front suspension strut. Then removed from the bar rack 5 (see fig. 85), unscrew the nuts securing the anti-roll bar to the body and carefully remove the stabilizer bar from under the exhaust pipe of the muffler.
The installation of components and parts of the front suspension is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
- the front bracing nuts, the nuts of the bolts for attaching the suspension arms to the body brackets, the nuts for attaching the stabilizer struts to the transverse suspension arms and the nuts for attaching the stabilizer bar to the body are pre-tightened until the gaps in the joints are selected;
- all nuts for fastening rubber-metal hinges, rubber bushings and pillows are finally tightened to the torques indicated in appendix. 1, with a static load of 320 kg, which corresponds to a mass of 4 people. and 40 kg of cargo in the trunk;
- when installing bracket 10 (see fig. 85) brace attachments to the body ensure that the threads in the welded bushings of the body are not damaged;
- when installing the anti-roll bar, do not allow longitudinal displacement of the pillows on the rod, since they must be located at the same distance from the center of the rod (the distance between the centers of the cushion brackets must be 700 mm). First, tighten the front bolts of the brackets of the 3 stabilizer pads (from the cut side of the pillows), and then back. At the same time, make sure that when tightening the bolts, the gap in the sections of the pillows is completely eliminated, and the pillows are not damaged.
On cars produced in 1985, anaerobic glue UG-9 was used in the splined connection of the wheel hub with the outer hinge housing. In the case of reuse of the wheel hub and the hinge body, the glue is removed, and immediately before assembly, the splines of the hub and the hinge are degreased and anaerobic glue UG-9 is applied to the splined part of the hinge body farthest from the threaded end with an annular strip of 10-20 mm. After that, the wheel hub is put on and the hub fastening nut is tightened to a torque of 23-25 kgf-m. During the first 4 hours required for the polymerization of the adhesive, the vehicle is transported by towing or under its own power, subject to smooth starting, without jerks, at a speed of not more than 10 km/h.
