Connecting rod and piston group — removal and installation (VAZ-2108)

To remove parts of this group, place the car on a lift and disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery. Raise the car, remove the engine splash guard and drain the coolant from the radiator and cylinder block. Drain the oil from the engine oil pan.

Loosen the bolts and remove the lower clutch housing cover and the oil pan with the gasket. Lower the vehicle and remove the cylinder head (see the description of the operation in Section. "Cylinder head"). Loosen the connecting rod cover mounting bolts and remove the piston with the connecting rod from the cylinder block upwards.

Install the connecting rod and piston group in the reverse order of removal. In this case, it is necessary to orient the pistons with the arrow towards the front of the engine. Before installing the cylinder head, turn the crankshaft until the mark on the flywheel aligns with the middle mark on the scale (see figure 52), and the camshaft pulley is turned so that the mark on it is on the left.
