Camshaft Oil Seal — Removal and Installation (VAZ-2108)

Before replacing the seal, brake the car with the parking brake and set the gearshift lever to neutral. Remove the front toothed belt cover.

Turn the crankshaft clockwise until the timing marks on the pulley and the rear protective cover of the toothed belt match. Loosen the nut securing the tension roller axle and turn it to loosen the belt. Remove the belt from the camshaft pulley.

Holding the camshaft pulley from turning with tool 67.7811.9509, unscrew its mounting bolt and remove the pulley with the key. Remove the old seal from the socket and press in a new seal with tool 67.7853.9580, having previously lubricated it with engine oil.

Install the camshaft pulley and, having blocked it from turning, secure it with a bolt and washer. Put the belt on the camshaft pulley and slightly tighten it with the tension roller, turning the roller axis counterclockwise.

Turn the crankshaft two revolutions in the direction of rotation and check the alignment of the timing marks on the camshaft pulley (see figure 6) and flywheel (see figure 52).

If the marks do not match, then repeat the installation of the belt, adjusting the position of the camshaft pulley. If the marks match, then adjust the belt tension as indicated in Section. "Engine adjustments", and install the front timing belt cover.

Check and, if necessary, adjust the ignition timing.
