- multimeter in ohmmeter mode with a measurement limit of 0.1 to 10 kOhm);
- thermometer with a change limit of at least 100°C;
- a small heat-resistant container with a volume of about 0.5 liters.
Advice. The thermometer can be replaced with a digital multimeter with thermometer mode.
Removing
1. Drain the coolant (see "Coolant - replacement").
2. For convenience, remove the air filter (see "Air filter - removal and installation").
3. Remove the protective cover from the sensor and disconnect the wire tip from the sensor output.
4. Key by 21 mm unscrew the sensor from the cylinder head.
Examination
We check the sensor in the same way as the coolant temperature sensor of the engine management system (see "Coolant temperature sensor - check and replace"). Connect the ohmmeter probes to the output and the sensor housing.
The resistance of a good sensor should be close to the data given in the table:
Coolant temperature,°С | Coolant temperature sensor resistance, Ohm |
100 | less than 109 |
90 | 155-196 |
70 | 280-390 |
50 | 585-820 |
30 | 1350-1880 |
Replace the defective sensor. The marking of the sensor is applied on the hexagonal part of its body.
Installation
Install the sensor in reverse order.
We fill the engine cooling system with liquid. We start the engine and make sure that there are no coolant leaks from under the sensor. If necessary, reinstall the sensor, applying a heat-resistant sealant to its threaded part.
