Condition of rubber-metal hinges checked visually. Hinges are subject to replacement in case of breaks, one-sided bulging of rubber and when cutting their end surfaces.
State (draft) suspension strut upper support check in the following order:
- install the car on a flat area under a static load of 320 kg;
- turning the steering wheel, set approximately the same gap A between the limiter 40 (see fig. 69) compression stroke and the rubber part of the support around the entire circumference;
- measure gap A. It should not exceed 10 mm, otherwise you should contact the service station for a more accurate check of the condition of the support.
Checking the state of the ball joint suspension arm is carried out with the wheel removed. Measure the distance between the lower arm 22 (see fig. 69) and protective cover 14 in the zone «IN». If this distance changes by more than 0.8 mm when the suspension swings, replace the joint.
Condition of the main suspension parts check by inspection. At the same time, it is checked whether there are any cracks on the suspension parts or traces of rubbing against road obstacles or the body, deformations of the transverse levers, stretch marks, the stabilizer bar and its struts and the body front elements at the attachment points of the suspension units and parts. Deformation of suspension parts, and above all stretch marks and parts of the front end of the body, violates the angles of the wheels and makes it impossible to adjust them.
Telescopic pole status it is checked as follows: install the car on a flyover or an inspection ditch and swing the front of the car, applying a force of 40... 50 kgf to the front bumper. With serviceable telescopic struts, the number of free vibrations of the body should not exceed three. At the same time, when rocking, check the attachment of the strut to the body and the state of its connection with the steering knuckle. Leakage of liquid and knocks in the rack during suspension strokes, deformation or destruction of the rack body, support cup, brackets and rack swing arm are not allowed. Minor oil stains on the rack body are not a sign of a malfunction and do not serve as a reason to replace or repair the rack.
