Condition of rubber-metal hinges visually inspected. Hinges are subject to replacement in case of breaks, one-sided bulging of rubber and in case of cutting of their end surfaces.
Condition (settlement) of the upper support of the suspension strut check in the following order:
- place the vehicle on a level surface under a static load of 320 kg;
- turning the steering wheel, set approximately the same gap A between the limiter 40 (see figure 69) compression stroke and the rubber part of the support along the entire circumference;
- measure the gap A. It should not exceed 10 mm, otherwise you should contact a service station for a more precise check of the support condition.
Checking the condition of the ball joint suspension arm is carried out with the wheel removed. Measure the distance between the lower arm 22 (see figure 69) and protective cover 14 in zone "B". If this distance changes by more than 0.8 mm when swinging the suspension, replace the joint.
Condition of the main suspension parts check by inspection. In this case, they check for cracks or traces of contact with road obstacles or the body on the suspension parts, deformations of the transverse levers, braces, stabilizer bars and their struts and elements of the front of the body in the places where the suspension units and parts are attached. Deformation of the suspension parts, and above all the braces and parts of the front of the body, disrupts the wheel alignment angles and makes it impossible to adjust them.
Telescopic stand condition is checked as follows: place the car on a ramp or inspection ditch and rock the front part of the car, applying a force of 40...50 kgf to the front bumper. If the telescopic struts are in good condition, the number of free oscillations of the body should not exceed three. At the same time, while rocking, check the strut fastening to the body and the condition of its connection with the steering knuckle. No fluid leaks or knocks in the strut during suspension movements, deformation or destruction of the strut body, support cup, brackets and strut pivot arm are allowed. Minor oil stains on the strut body are not a sign of a malfunction and are not a reason to replace or repair the strut.
