Suspension arms. Their deformation is determined on the fixture A.95716 (pic. 111). To do this, install the lower lever 2 (pic. 112, a) so that the mandrel 1 is articulated with the cone of the pin of the ball joint of the lever, and the locating pins of the device are included in the holes 3 of the axis of the lever. The mandrel 1 for centering should enter the right or central hole of the device, respectively, depending on which lever is being checked, right or left. A sign of the deformation of the lever is the impossibility of inserting the fixture into the holes 3 of the lever axis without the effort of the fingers, as well as poor articulation of the mandrel 1 with the cone of the ball joint pin.
Upper arm 3 (pic. 112) mounted on the same device in an inverted position so that the mandrel 2 for centering exactly coincides with the shank of the pin of the ball joint 1, and the pin 4 passes into the holes of the rubber-metal hinges of the lever. The degree of deformation of the lever is determined by the difficulty of inserting the pin 4 into the holes of the lever and by the poor articulation of the conical socket of the mandrel 2 with the conical surface of the ball joint pin. Pin 4 should enter the hinge holes without much effort.
Ball joints
First of all, they are convinced of the safety of the mud-proof covers of the hinges. Breaks, cracks, delamination of rubber from metal fittings, traces of lubricant leakage are unacceptable. Then check whether there is any wear on the working surfaces of the ball joints by manually turning the ball pin. Free (without resistance) finger movement or sticking is unacceptable. A more accurate check of the condition of the upper ball joint in terms of radial and axial play is carried out on fixture 02.8701.9502. To do this, install a ball joint 1 (pic. 113, a) into the socket of the device and clamp it with a screw. Indicator 2 is installed in the fixture bracket so that the indicator leg rests against the side surface of the hinge body, and the indicator needle is at zero.
A torque wrench 3 is installed in the socket of the device and, having applied a moment of 20 kgf·m to it in both directions, the total radial clearance in the ball joint is determined by indicator 2. If it exceeds 0.7 mm, the hinge is replaced with a new one.
Similarly, the axial clearance in the ball joint is checked, after changing its fastening in the fixture, as shown in Fig. 113, Axial clearance in the hinge is allowed no more than 0.7 mm.
Rubber-metal hinges
Signs by which rubber-metal hinges are replaced are described in Sec. "Determining the technical condition of the front suspension parts on a car".
Steering knuckles
To check, install the steering knuckle 1 (pic. 114) on caliber A.96008 (2), clamped in a vice so that its surface under the wheel hub oil seal coincides with the gauge hole. Insert two lateral gauge pins into the holes in the knuckle. If this requires some effort, then the fist is deformed and must be replaced.
Suspension springs
Check the springs carefully. If cracks or deformations of the coils are found, which can cause a malfunction, replace the spring with a new one. Compressing the spring three times until the coils touch, check its compliance with the following data:
At the same time check the condition of the insulating gaskets. If they are damaged, they are replaced with new ones.
Stabilizer bar
Check whether the rod is deformed and whether its ends are in the same plane. If the deformation is insignificant, then the bar is straightened. In case of significant deformation, the bar is replaced. Check the safety of the pillows in the mounting brackets to the body and to the lower suspension arms. When worn, the pillows are replaced.
Front suspension crossbar. Checking its status is described in sec. "Determining the technical condition of the front suspension parts on a car".
