Exhaust system — structure and description (VAZ-2110)

            0

On VAZ 2110, 2111, 2112 cars, the exhaust system consists of an exhaust manifold, a muffler inlet pipe, the main and additional mufflers and is equipped with a catalytic converter. To reduce the transmission of vibrations to the body and reduce the load on the exhaust system during vibrations of the power unit (engine and gearbox), the connection of the inlet pipe with the subsequent element of the system is made hinged (see Fig.). The mobility and tightness of the connection is ensured by two springs installed under the tie bolts and a metal-graphite sealing ring with a spherical outer surface. The flange of the element of the exhaust system, connected to the inlet pipe of the muffler, has an internal spherical surface.

The connection between the main and additional mufflers is rigid, with a steel sealing ring.

The exhaust system is suspended from the body brackets on four rubber rings - cushions. The cushions of the additional muffler suspension and the front suspension of the main muffler are interchangeable. The rear suspension cushion of the main muffler is reinforced.

The exhaust systems of cars with injection engines of the 2112 (l,5i) and 21124 (l,6i) models are similar to each other, but have a number of differences.

Features of the exhaust system of the VAZ 2112 engine (l,5i)

The injection engine VAZ 2112 (l,5i) meets EURO II standards for exhaust gas toxicity.

The exhaust manifold of the 2112 engine is cast from cast iron. The connection of the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head is sealed with a two-layer metal gasket. The flange of the muffler inlet pipe is connected to the flange of the exhaust manifold with six studs with nuts through a heat-resistant (metal asbestos) gasket. The catalytic converter is located under the bottom of the car between the exhaust pipe and the additional muffler. A metal screen installed above the converter protects the bottom of the car from heating. The oxygen concentration sensor is installed at the bottom of the exhaust pipe in front of the converter. The connection between the exhaust pipe and the converter is made with a hinge.

Features of the exhaust system of the VAZ 21124 engine (l, 6i)

Engine 21124 (l,6i), depending on the configuration, meets EURO II or EURO III standards for exhaust gas toxicity.

The exhaust manifold of the 21124 engine is steel. The catalytic converter is combined with the exhaust manifold into a single unit - the catalytic manifold (cat collector). This reduces the time it takes for the neutralizer to warm up to operating temperature and increases its efficiency. Two oxygen concentration sensors are installed in the catalytic collector - before and after the neutralizer (in the EURO II version, one oxygen concentration sensor is installed before the neutralizer). The connection between the catalytic collector and the exhaust pipe is sealed with heat-resistant material (metal asbestos) gasket. The connection between the muffler inlet pipe and the additional muffler is made with a hinge.

Warning: Repairs to the exhaust system or work near it may only be carried out after the system components have cooled to a safe temperature (not higher than 45°C).
