Disassembly
Loosen the universal joint fork clamp bolt and separate the intermediate and upper steering shafts.
If the upper shaft or its bearings are damaged, flare the core points of the bracket pipe and remove shaft 15 (see fig. 5-1) complete with bearings 11.
If the shaft rotates in the bearings without binding and no axial or radial free play is felt in the bearings, disassembling the upper steering shaft is not recommended.
If the shaft or its bearings are worn or damaged, replace them with new ones.
Assembly
Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly. Then stake the bracket tube at two points on both sides to secure the shaft bearings.
