- raise the hood of the car and, turning the wheels of the car to the right (to the left), unpin the nuts of the ball pins of the hinges of the outer tie rod ends, then press the pins out of the steering knuckle levers using tool A.47035;
- acting from the passenger compartment, unscrew the nut and remove the lower coupling bolt of the universal joint yoke of the intermediate shaft 33 (see fig. 113);
- remove the facing casing of the upper 35 and lower 40 of the steering column, disconnect the plug connector of the wires of the switches and the ignition switch;
- unscrew the bolts and nuts securing the bracket 34 of the steering column shaft to the body bracket and remove the bracket 34 complete with shafts 33 and 37 and the steering wheel 36, pulling them into the interior of the body;
- acting from the side of the engine compartment, unscrew the nuts fastening the clamps 7, which fasten the steering gear to the cross member 5 of the subframe, remove the clamps from the grooves of the brackets 8;
- disconnect the wire «masses» from the crankcase of the steering mechanism; the steering gear is fed forward until the drive gear 15 exits the hole in the front of the body, while making sure that the seal 23 of the gear is not damaged;
- remove the crankcase of the steering mechanism 6 assembled with the tie rod ends 3 and pulling it towards the wheel.
The installation of the steering is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
- before mounting the steering mechanism, set the steering wheel spoke horizontally and combine marks A and B (see fig. 113) on the anther and on the crankcase of the steering mechanism and in this position the intermediate shaft of the steering column is connected to the drive gear shaft; at the same time, pay attention that the shaft of the locking bolt passes through the annular groove of the gear and the upper shaft. It is allowed to assemble the intermediate shaft with the gear with the steering wheel removed. Then, aligning marks A and B on the anther and on the steering gear housing, install the steering wheel, ensuring the horizontal position of its spokes;
- the nuts of the pins of the ball joints of the outer ends of the rods are cottered after tightening with a torque wrench. If the notch of the nut does not coincide with the hole for the cotter pin, then the nut is tightened to an angle less than 60°to ensure the cotter pin;
- to facilitate the installation of brackets 8 (see fig. 113) on the rubber bushings of the steering mechanism supports, lubricate the rubber bushings with soapy liquid.
