Open the hood, remove the spare wheel and disconnect the wire from the terminal «minus» battery. Remove the windshield washer reservoir and ignition coil with high voltage wires. Remove the front toothed belt cover.
Loosen the alternator drive belt and remove it from the pulleys. Remove the pulley (with key) generator drive from the crankshaft and screw the pulley bolt into place.
Set the gear lever to neutral position and turn the crankshaft clockwise until the mark on the flywheel (see fig. 67), visible in the hatch of the clutch housing, was against the middle division of the scale. In this case, the mark on the camshaft pulley must be against the alignment mark on the rear toothed belt guard.
Loosen the nut securing the tensioner roller axis and turn it to a position in which the belt will be as loose as possible. Remove the belt from the pulleys.
They put a new belt on the camshaft pulley and, pulling both branches of the belt, wind the left branch behind the tension roller, and then wrap it around the coolant pump pulley. Put the lower part of the belt on the crankshaft pulley and slightly tighten it with a tension roller, turning the roller axis counterclockwise. When installing the belt, its sharp bends with radii of less than 20 mm are avoided so as not to damage the glass cord of the belt.
Turn the crankshaft two turns clockwise and check whether the alignment marks on the pulley and the rear toothed belt guard match, and whether the mark on the flywheel is against the middle division of the scale (see fig. 67).
If the marks do not match, then repeat the operation of installing the belt by adjusting the position of the camshaft pulley. If the marks match, then turn on the IV gear in the gearbox, unscrew the bolt from the crankshaft, install the key and the generator drive pulley and fix it with a bolt and washer, finally tightening it with a torque of 102.9 N·m (10.5 kgf·m).
Adjust the belt tension and install the front toothed belt guard. Put on the alternator drive belt and adjust its tension (see sect. «Engine adjustment»).
Install the ignition coil and high voltage wires.
Connect the wires to the terminal «minus» battery, check and adjust the ignition timing (see sect. «Engine adjustment»).
Install the windshield washer reservoir and spare wheel.
