To remove the power unit, roll the car onto a lift (better two post) and brake it with a parking brake. Install stops under the rear wheels and hang out the front wheels. Open the hood and remove it if the power unit will be removed using a hoist. Remove the spare wheel and disconnect the wire from the terminal «minus» battery.
Raise the car on a lift and remove the engine mudguards by unscrewing the bolts of their fastening to the body. The coolant is drained from the radiator, cylinder block and heater, for which the drain plugs on the cylinder block and radiator are unscrewed (just two plugs); remove the cover of the expansion tank and open the heater tap by moving the lower heater control lever to the right. They drop the car.
Disconnect the wires from the starter and generator, from the sensors for the coolant temperature gauge and oil pressure warning lamp, from the reverse light switch and the carburetor solenoid valve. Disconnect the wires from the spark torque sensor and remove the high voltage wires by disconnecting them from the spark plugs and the ignition coil. Disconnect the ground wire from the power unit by unscrewing the nut that secures the wire tip to the clutch housing.
Remove the air filter by disconnecting the crankcase ventilation hose from the cylinder head cover, and the warm air supply hose from the warm air intake. Close the carburetor from above with a technological plug.
Disconnect the fuel supply hose from the fuel pump, and the vacuum brake booster hose from the intake pipe. From the pipe on the cylinder head, disconnect the coolant outlet hose to the radiator, and from the thermostat, the coolant supply hose and the hose going to the expansion tank. Disconnect the fluid inlet and outlet hoses from the heater nozzles on the front panel.
Disconnect the carburetor air and throttle control cables from the engine by unscrewing the nuts and the bolt securing the cable sheaths to the brackets on the intake pipe and the carburetor and disconnecting the cable ends from the carburetor.
The flexible shaft of the speedometer drive is disconnected from the gearbox by unscrewing the union nut, and the clutch cable by unscrewing the nuts securing the cable sheath to the gearbox cover and disconnecting the cable tip from the clutch release fork lever. Measures are taken to ensure that when removing the power unit, there are no sharp bends in the speedometer drive shaft.
If the power unit is removed using a hoist, then it is hooked on the brackets mounted on the cylinder head and gearbox. Raise the car on the lift while tightening the hoist chain so that the power unit remains suspended.
Disconnect the rod 13 (see fig. 80) gear lever drive from the hinge of the gear selection rod by unscrewing the clamp bolt 12. Disconnect the reactive thrust 14 from the gearbox by unscrewing the fastening bolt.
Unscrew the bolts tightening the flanges of the intake pipe and muffler pipes, and take out the sealing ring located between the flanges.
Disconnect the ball joints of the suspension arms from the rotary cams. Unscrew the nuts of the clamps of the steering mechanism and disconnect it from the subframe. The nuts fastening to the hubs of the tips of the outer hinges of the front wheel drive shafts are unscrewed and the tips are disengaged from the wheel hubs.
If the power unit is removed using a special trolley with a hydraulic lift, then bring it under the car and raise the support brackets of the hydraulic lift until it stops against the subframe.
Unscrew the bolts securing the subframe to the body and lower the power unit with the subframe down. If a hoist is used, then gradually releasing the hoist chain, carefully lower the power unit with a subframe onto the trolley. Unscrew the bolts securing the suspension supports of the power unit to the subframe and remove the power unit from the subframe.
Install the power unit in the reverse order of removal. After connecting the actuators of the air and throttle valves to the carburetor, they are adjusted as described in Sec. «Engine settings». The clutch release actuator and gearbox actuator also regulate (see sect. «Clutch» and «Transmission»). Check and adjust front wheel alignment (see sect. «Front suspension, wheels»).
Having installed the power unit on the car, carefully check the quality of the installation. Let the engine run for a while, and then check for leaks of coolant and fuel in the pipe connections, and tighten the connections if necessary. They check whether the contacts of the wires of the electrical equipment are reliable and whether the signal lamps on the instrument panel work correctly.
