Differential: 1 – a driving gear wheel of a drive of a speedometer; 2 - satellite; 3 - side gears; 4 - driven gear of the main gear; 5 - the axis of the satellites; 6 - differential housing; 7 - differential bearing
You will need:
- key "at 17"
- universal puller
- circlip pliers
- bearing press mandrel
- goatee
- hammer
Remove the differential from the gearbox (see subsection 11.1.2., operations 1–36).
One of the causes of increased noise in the gearbox may be wear or breakage of differential parts.
Increased axial clearance of side gears (more than 0.1 mm) can be eliminated by installing thicker support washers.
For reference: the moment of resistance to rotation of the differential must not exceed 15 N/m (1.5 kgf/m).
Attention! The final drive gears at the manufacturer's factory are selected in pairs according to noise and contact patch. Therefore, when replacing the driven gear, also replace the drive gear (they are sold in pairs). The driven gear is marked with the number of teeth of the driven / driving gears. To check, count the number of teeth on the drive gear.
Attention! When pressing with a puller, bearings can be damaged. Therefore, remove bearings only when replacement is necessary.
Attention! If at least one of the following parts was replaced during the repair of the gearbox: clutch housing or gearbox housing, differential housing or differential bearings, then it is necessary to select an adjusting ring for differential bearings (see subsection 11.1.7.).
1. Remove the retaining ring from the pinion shaft.
2. Knock out the axis of the satellites from the differential housing with a beard.
3. By turning the satellites in the differential housing by 90°...
4....remove both satellites from the case.
5. Remove the side gear from the housing and...
6.... support washer installed under it.
7. Remove the second side gear along with the washer.
8. Inspect the working surfaces of the satellites and their axis, side gears and the spherical surfaces of the differential housing in contact with them. Eliminate small irregularities with a fine-grained skin. Replace parts with significant defects.
9. Assemble the differential in the reverse order of disassembly, after lubricating all parts with gear oil.
10. If there are chips, chipping and significant tooth wear, replace the gear. For this...
11.... unscrew the bolts securing the driven gear to the differential housing. We recommend that you remove the side gears so that you can hold the differential housing with a spudger rather than clamping the gear in a vise.
12. Place the gear on the jaws of a vise and press the differential case out of the driven gear.
13. Install the driven gear to the differential housing in the reverse order of removal. In this case, the marking of the teeth on the gear must be directed outward. Wrap the gear bolts evenly crosswise.
14. In the presence of shells on the treadmills and rolling elements, traces of indentation of the rolling elements on the treadmills, damage to the separators, the bearings must be replaced. To do this, use a puller to compress them from the differential. Wherein...
15.... press the bearing from the side of the speedometer drive gear by the separator (not to damage the gear). If the bearing inner race remains on the differential box, knock it out with a chisel or saw it.
16. Press the new bearings in until they stop, using a suitable drift, applying force only to the inner races of the bearings.
17. Press the bearing outer races out of the gearbox and clutch housings with a special puller. If the puller is missing, carefully press out the axle shaft seals first (see subsection 11.1.9 for details.). Then...
18.... from the outside of the crankcases, press out the outer races of the bearings with a beard.
19. Under the ring installed in the gearbox housing, there may be an adjusting ring, which must be re-selected before pressing in new rings (see subsection 11.1.7.).
20. Press the new rings into the crankcases to the stop using a suitable mandrel. In this case, it is not allowed to change the rings relative to the bearings. In the absence of a mandrel, press the rings as much as possible using a flat metal plate, and then...
21.... with the help of a beard with uniform blows over the entire circumference, press the rings to the stop.
22. To replace the speedometer drive gear, knock it down with a chisel or cut it. Then press the bearing with a puller, install a new gear and press the bearing.
