The torque is transmitted from the gearbox to the main gear by means of a cardan transmission, which makes it possible to transmit torque at an angle. The cardan transmission is unified for all the models described.
The cardan transmission consists of a front 14 (Fig. 76) and rear 21 cardan shafts, an intermediate support 17, an elastic coupling 23, two cardan joints and a fork 22.

Front propeller shaft
It is made of a thin-walled steel pipe, to both ends of which splined tips are welded. On the splines of the front tip there is a flange 7, which is connected through a rubber elastic coupling to flange 2 of the driven shaft 10 with a mud deflector 11 of the gearbox by six bolts 6. The alignment of the connected shafts is ensured by a centering ring 15, pressed onto the end of the driven shaft, and a centering sleeve 4, pressed into flange 7 of the cardan shaft.
Ring 15 is fixed on the shaft by retaining ring 16.
The splined connection is lubricated through an opening closed by plug 18. The lubricant is retained by a rubber seal 9, which is placed in a steel collar 8, and on the other side by a seal 13, put on a nut 12.
The rear splined end of shaft 14 rests on ball bearing 33 of the intermediate support. The fork 28 of the intermediate cardan joint is secured to the splines of the end with nut 34.
Rear propeller shaft
It is also made from a thin-walled pipe, with cardan joint forks welded to the ends.
Intermediate elastic support
Absorbs vibration of the cardan transmission. It consists of a bracket secured to the crossbar with 26 bolts and nuts. The crossbar, in turn, is secured with nuts on bolts welded to the body. Steel spacer bushings 20 and rubber insulating bushings 19, pressed with washers, are installed on the crossbar mounting bolts. A rubber cushion is located in the bracket, which is vulcanized to the surfaces of the bracket and the bearing housing. A radial ball bearing 33 with seals is located in the bearing housing, which is fixed in the housing with a retaining ring 27. Dust deflectors 32, installed on both sides of the bearing, protect the bearing from dirt. Litol-24 grease is added to the bearing during assembly and is not replenished during operation.
Flexible coupling
Absorbs noise and vibrations of the cardan transmission. It is made of six rubber elements 3, between which metal inserts 5 with holes for bolts 1 and 6 are placed. There are 6 projections on the inserts, 3 of which enter the grooves of the flange of the driven shaft of the gearbox, and the rest - in the grooves of the flange of the elastic coupling. This ensures the centering of the elastic coupling on the flanges.
Cardan joint. Consists of two forks 28 and 36 fixed to shafts, which are connected to each other by a crosspiece 35. The housings of needle bearings 30 are put on the hollow pins of the crosspiece. The crosspiece bearing is sealed by a gland located in a metal cage 31.
The assembled needle bearings are fixed in the fork holes with retaining rings 29, which are divided into 5 sizes by thickness. Each size is painted in a specific color; 1.62 mm - in yellow; 1.59 - in black; 1.56 - in blue; 1.52 - in dark brown; ring 1.50 mm unpainted. By selecting the retaining ring, the axial clearance of the crosspiece is provided within 0.01-0.04 mm. The main dimensions of the mating parts and the limits of permissible wear in operation are given in Table 10.
