The location of the marks for setting the ignition
1 - mark w.m.t. on the crankshaft pulley;
2 – a label of an advancing of ignition on 10°;
3 – a label of an advancing of ignition on 5°;
4 - ignition advance mark by 0°
To check the ignition timing, there are three marks 2, 3 and 4 on the cover of the gas distribution mechanism and mark 1 on the crankshaft pulley, corresponding to the TDC. piston in the first and fourth cylinders when it matches the mark 4 on the cover.
The initial ignition timing for various engines and gasolines used are indicated in subsection 14.4.
Examination
1. You can check and set the ignition timing using a stroboscope, proceeding in the following order.
2. connect clamp «plus» stroboscope with terminal «plus» battery, ground clamp - with terminal «minus» battery, and connect the stroboscope sensor clamp to the high voltage wire of the 1st cylinder.
3. Mark with chalk for better visibility mark 1 (see fig. The location of the marks for setting the ignition) on the crankshaft pulley. Start the engine and warm it up so that it runs at minimum idle speed.
4. Point the flashing strobe light at the pulley and check if the position of the pulley mark 1 matches the data subsection 14.4.
If there is a diagnostic stand with an oscilloscope, then it can also be used to easily check the ignition timing setting, acting as described in the instructions for the stand.
Adjustment
1. To adjust the ignition timing, stop the engine, loosen the ignition distributor mounting nut and turn it to the desired angle.
2. To increase the ignition timing, the distributor housing should be turned counterclockwise, and to decrease it, clockwise.
3. Then check the ignition timing again.
Installation
1. Install the ignition distributor removed from the engine in the following order.
2. Remove the cover from the ignition distributor, check and, if necessary, adjust the gap between the breaker contacts.
3. Turn the crankshaft to the start of the compression stroke in the first cylinder, and then, continuing to turn the crankshaft, align mark 1 with mark 3.
4. Rotate the rotor so that its outer contact points towards the first cylinder contact on the distributor cap.
5. While holding the distributor shaft from turning, insert it into the socket on the cylinder block so that the center line passing through the spring latches is approximately parallel to the engine center line.
6. Fasten the distributor to the cylinder block, install the cover, connect the wires, check and adjust the ignition timing.
