There are many important parts in any car. But there are parts with which further movement is prohibited if this part fails on the road. This is the brake system. The life of the driver and passengers depends on it, so this system needs the most attention, and for this you need to know it.

The brake system is hydraulic with a hydrovacuum booster, dual-circuit. The main brake cylinder and hydrovacuum booster of the "ten" are the same as those of the "nine".

"Tens" have three types of front brake mechanisms.

The VAZ-2110 car is equipped with a brake disc, caliper, pad guide and protective cover from the 2108.

The VAZ-21102 car is equipped with a ventilated disc with index 2110, a 2110 caliper, 2110 pad guides and a 2112 protective casing.

The following are installed on VAZ-21103, VAZ-21113 and VAZ-2112 cars: a ventilated disc with an increased diameter 2112, the same caliper for all - 2110, its own pad guide - 2112 and a protective casing 2112. Practice shows that ventilated brakes and especially those with larger disks are much more effective than "Samara" brakes. It is possible to transfer "Samara" brakes to "Lada-112" brakes, but for this you need to have all the equipment of the front brakes of the "Lada-112". But you should always remember: brakes with a large diameter disks necessarily need a 14-inch wheel.



The rear wheel brake mechanisms are similar to the brake mechanisms of the "tens" family.

Parking brake



The device of the parking brake is almost the same not only on domestic cars, but also on imported ones. But, given the importance of the purpose of the parking brake, which many drivers forget about, you should pay attention to its operation.

When the parking brake lever is raised, the cable pulls a special lever of the parking drive of the rear brake mechanism, the shoes are pressed against the brake drum, the forces of vision are created between the shoes and the drum, and the kinetic energy of the car is converted into thermal energy of the brake mechanism. This is how the parking brake works, it is used when the car is parked on an incline, when braking the car on a slippery road, when braking with the service brake leads to skidding or skidding of the car. Well, its main purpose, which you need to remember, is that it acts as a spare brake. If the service brake fails, when its pedal has sunk, the right hand should immediately pull the parking brake lever up.

The parking brake cable is in a casing, the ends of which are covered with caps. It is necessary to monitor their condition, they should not have cracks. If they appear, moisture will get into them, the cable will rust and will not move. Before the caps, the cable must be lubricated.

When tensioning the cable, do not overtighten it, there should be at least 4-5 clicks when lifting the brake lever. An overtightened cable limits the operation of the pads and when the service brake is in operation. You need to remember this.


Brake hoses and fluid



We have just looked at the driver's actions when the brake pedal suddenly fails. The cause of this can basically only be a ruptured brake hose. Other elements that have failed, as a rule, tell the driver: this element needs to be replaced. This hint can be leaks of brake fluid on the wheels and on the road, a decrease in fluid in the reservoir.

Therefore, every self-respecting driver who cares about the health of his "friend" and the safety of himself and his passengers, should regularly monitor not only the level of brake fluid in the reservoir, but also the condition of the brake hoses and the presence of brake fluid leaks.

The operating conditions of brake hoses and other brake mechanism elements are quite severe. Water, dirt, ice, salt, sand, stones, as well as internal pressure and vibrations constantly test almost all brake mechanism elements during operation. And brake hoses are additionally subjected to bending and twisting both during operation and during repair of all brake system elements.

If the old hose has failed, you did not notice that it was cracked, had cracks or cuts, and were waiting for better times to replace it, the driver is to blame. But if you have just replaced the old hose without cracks and cuts, which has served faithfully for almost ten years, with a new and clean one, and you have not even driven a hundred kilometers on it, as you had to apply your skill in controlling your "friend" when his pedal failed, so as not to crash the car... - It is a shame and painful, especially because such cases used to be rarer.

When choosing brake hoses during purchase, be very careful and pay attention to the inscriptions, they must be of high quality (it is desirable that the manufacturer be well-known) and should not stretch in length.

Brake fluids also play a significant role, so it is important to know their name, what their quality is and who produced them.

The brake system of the "ten" is filled with brake fluid of the type DOT-3 or DOT-4, ROSA, ROSA-3, ROSA-DOT-4 and so on - they are indicated in the operating manual. Of the imported ones, the following are interchangeable with them: Motul DOT-4, Castrol DOT-4.
