- A) there are no extraneous sounds coming from the engine (knocks, rattle), indicating cranking of the connecting rod or main bearings, or a malfunction of the oil pump;
- b) the engine is filled with oil according to the season ("Operating fluids");
- V) the oil level in the engine crankcase is correct ("Checking the engine oil level");
- G) the oil pressure sensor is working and its wire is not shorted to «mass». We check the integrity of the sensor wire insulation visually. To check the sensor itself, we replace it with a known good one and start the engine. If the emergency oil pressure warning lamp continues to burn, the sensor is OK.
Checking engine oil pressure with a pressure gauge
1. Remove the decorative trim of the engine (see "Decorative overlay of the engine - removal and installation").
2. Having loosened the tightening with a socket wrench by 21 mm, we unscrew the emergency oil pressure sensor.
3. We wrap the pressure gauge tip into the sensor seat.
4. We start the engine on the car and check. For a serviceable engine warmed up to operating temperature, the oil pressure at idle speed must be at least 60 kPa (0.6 bar).
If the pressure is lower, the engine needs an overhaul.
