To remove, install, or replace camshaft pulleys, you will need a special tool to hold the camshaft pulleys.
Note: Removal, installation, replacement of the camshaft pulley can be performed without this device; unscrewing the camshaft pulley mounting bolts will usually be possible without difficulty.
Removal
1. Remove the front timing belt cover (see items 1-4 "Front Timing Belt Cover - Removal and Installation").
2. If there is a special tool for holding the camshaft pulleys, remove the timing belt and, holding the camshaft pulleys with this tool, unscrew the bolts that secure them with a 17 mm wrench.
If there is no device, then use a 17 mm socket wrench to loosen the camshaft pulley mounting bolts, holding the crankshaft from turning with a 17 mm wrench by the pulley mounting bolt (or by engaging fifth gear and placing wheel chocks under the wheels).

The camshaft pulley can be held by inserting the handles of pliers into its holes and placing a tire iron between the handles.

3. Remove the timing belt (see "Timing belt - removal, installation, replacement").
4. Unscrew the camshaft pulley mounting bolts and remove the intake valve pulley assembly with the camshaft position sensor disc.

5. Remove the exhaust camshaft pulley.

6. To avoid losing them, remove the keys from the camshaft grooves.
Installation
We install the camshaft pulleys on the car in the reverse order, making sure that the keys enter the pulley grooves. After installing the camshaft pulleys, we install the timing belt (see "Timing belt - removal, installation, replacement") and adjust its tension (see "Timing belt - checking condition and adjusting belt tension").
