Note. One of the reasons for low fuel pressure in the fuel rail may be a dirty fuel pump strainer.
Recommendation. If you suspect a malfunction of the pressure regulator, it must be replaced.
Removing
1. Remove the fuel module (see "21124 engine fuel pump fuel module (1,6i) - removal, installation, replacement").
2. Remove the fuel gauge sensor (see "Engine fuel module 21124 (1,6i) - replacement of the fuel gauge sensor").
3. Using pliers with thin jaws, remove the retaining ring from the cover guide.
Warning. With a marker, mark the guide on which the spring is put on. It is impossible to rearrange the spring to another guide.
4. Having removed the guide covers from the fuel module housing, remove the spring.
5. Disconnect the three latches.
6. We take out the fuel pump assembly with the strainer from the housing.
7. We remove dirt deposits from the fuel pump housing and wash the housing in clean gasoline.
8. We wash the mesh filter in a solvent for nitro-paint and blow it with compressed air (from compressor or foot pump).
Recommendation. If the strainer is very dirty and cannot be cleaned, replace it or the fuel pump assembly (see "Engine fuel module 21124 (1,6i) - removal, installation, replacement").
Installation
We assemble and install the fuel pump fuel module and all removed parts on the car in the reverse order of disassembly.
