Cooling system fan malfunctions (VAZ-2101)

If the car is equipped with an electric fan, the following defects may be added to the list of malfunctions: a blown fuse (16A) or a failed switch (sensor). To check this, you need to connect the tips of the wires approaching it. If the reason is in the sensor, the electric fan will work. If the sensor contacts are oxidized or dirty, the defect is eliminated by cleaning the tips. All the defects listed here lead to the electric fan not turning on when the device needle approaches the red zone.

It happens that the electric fan does not turn off even when its operation is no longer required. This usually happens if:

• the switch (sensor) contacts are stuck. To make sure you are right, you need to disconnect one wire. A stopped fan is the best confirmation;
• the relay contacts are baked. This malfunction is checked by disconnecting the wires from the terminals "87" or "30/51". A stopped fan indicates that the contacts need to be cleaned or the relay replaced.
