The wiper is located in the engine compartment, on the left in the direction of the vehicle, and the RS-514 relay, designed to obtain an intermittent operation, is installed under the instrument panel on the left side and is attached to the body with two screws.
1. The wiper motor does not work, the fuse does not blow:
- A) motor power wires are damaged or wire lugs are oxidized. Wiper motor powered by battery (remember that the windshield wiper works even when the engine is not running). The source and sink wires are connected using a block with four plug connectors. To eliminate damage or oxidation, it is necessary to carefully inspect the wiring, plug connection with it, clean the tips and eliminate the break;
- b) windshield wiper switch damaged. Usually the switch is not repaired, but replaced. Using a thin screwdriver, pry off the switch and remove the entire three-key block from the socket, disconnect the wires and install a new switch;
- V) the brushes of the electric motor are frozen, the collector is highly oxidized. The plant recommends replacing the failed electric motor with a new one. Of the repair operations, only the replacement of the gearbox gear and the cleaning of the collector are allowed. Some motorists have also mastered the operation of replacing brushes.
The windshield wiper must be removed from the vehicle to carry out repairs. The dismantling procedure is as follows: remove the wiper blades with levers; unscrew the nuts of the axles of the levers with the mounting sleeves; unscrew the nuts of the electric motor bracket and remove the electric motor complete with levers; disconnect the lever system from the electric motor.
Windshield wipers on VAZ vehicles are equipped with an electric motor (pic. 71) ME241. A worm gearbox is also assembled in one node with it. To disassemble the electric motor, it is necessary to unscrew the screws securing the gearbox cover 1 and remove it together with panel 2, unscrew the screws securing the gearbox housing 4 to the motor housing and separate them. Then you can remove the anchor 8. Having disassembled the electric motor, you should blow it with compressed air, and then deal with the brushes and the collector. Brushes 7 should move freely without jamming in brush holders 6. The springs should be intact and elastic. When the collector is oxidized, it must be cleaned with a fine-grained sandpaper, and then wiped with a clean cloth lightly greased with technical petroleum jelly. At the same time, you should inspect for signs of jamming on the necks of the armature shaft. If there are any, they also need to be sanded.
It is necessary to assemble the electric motor carefully, take the brushes away from the collector in time, otherwise you can break them. When installing armature 8, do not touch the poles in order to avoid their deformation. After assembly, to center the bearings, tap the housing with a wooden mallet;
- G) the output of the electric motor and the armature winding broke (which happens very rarely). Electric motors with such malfunctions are replaced.
2. The wiper motor does not work, the fuse blows. This usually happens for two reasons: if a short circuit occurs in the armature winding, and then the motor is replaced; if by negligence the wiper arms were bent, which began to touch the body and create a lot of resistance. The levers are removed, aligned, and the defect disappears.
3. The wiper motor is running but the brushes are not moving. The defect occurs when the teeth of the gear 3 of the gearbox break or the crank is poorly attached to the axis 5 of the gear of the gearbox. To eliminate both of these malfunctions, the wiper motor must be disassembled, however, partially. It is enough to remove the gearbox cover along with the panel on which the gear is installed. To remove the gear, unscrew the crank nut (the same nut, due to which the brushes can be idle), remove the retaining ring from the axle and remove the axle with gear and washers from the housing. Assembly is carried out in reverse order.
