Engine mount (VAZ-2101)

The engine assembly with clutch and gearbox is mounted on the vehicle on three elastic supports (two supports in front and one support in the back), This design allows to significantly reduce the amplitude of engine oscillations and body vibrations. The supports take both the engine mass and the loads arising from engine vibration, from the engine inertia when the car starts moving, accelerates and brakes. The engine is attached to the crossmember of the front suspension of the car by two front supports 2 (Fig. 4), and the rear one - to the crossmember 13 of the rear engine suspension.



The front supports have rubber cushions 9, in which steel washers with fastening bolts 10 are vulcanized. In the opening, inside the cushions, there are springs 7 for increasing rigidity, resting on insulating rings 6, and buffers 8 for softening impacts, which are a rubber rod with a vulcanized steel bushing.

The cushions are attached to intermediate plates 5, which in turn are attached to brackets 4 of the front engine support. The brackets are secured with four studs to flange 3 of the cylinder block. To protect the right cushion from the hot exhaust pipe, a protective casing 1 is installed under it.



The rear support 11 consists of three steel plates vulcanized to the rubber separating them. The upper plate is attached to the rear cover of the gearbox, and the lower ones to the cross member 13 of the rear engine mount.

To prevent the crossbar shelves from being deformed when tightening the support mounting bolts, spacer bushings 12 are installed between the shelves.

Maintenance of the engine mount consists of cleaning the rubber parts from oil and dirt, and, if necessary, tightening the mounting nuts and bolts.
