Device Features
On VAZ-2105 and VAZ-2104 vehicles, all control devices are located on the instrument panel. There is a speedometer, a combination of instruments with a coolant temperature gauge and a fuel gauge, a voltmeter and a block of control lamps.

Repair of control devices
Repair of control devices and sensors consists in replacing burned-out lamps and faulty devices and sensors.
Removing the instrument panel
On VAZ-2105, VAZ-2104 vehicles, to remove the instrument panel, use a screwdriver to remove the plugs of the two shield fastening screws located at the edges of the shield between the switches. Then unscrew the screws, remove the shield and disconnect the wires and the flexible shaft of the speedometer drive from it. When installing the instrument panel, proceed in reverse order.
Instrument Troubleshooting Technique
Coolant temperature gauge
If the pointer needle is constantly at the beginning of the scale, then with the ignition on, disconnect the wire from the pointer sensor and connect the wire tip to the housing.
If the arrow deviates, then the sensor is faulty and must be replaced. If the arrow does not deviate, remove the instrument panel and, with the ignition on, connect the instrument cluster plug to the housing, to which the green wire with a white stripe fits. The deviation of the arrow in this case will indicate the serviceability of the device and the damage to the wire connecting the sensor to the instrument cluster.
If the pointer is constantly in the red zone, then with the ignition on, disconnect the wire from the sensor. With a faulty sensor, the arrow should return to the beginning of the scale. If the arrow remains in the red zone, then either the wire has a short circuit with the case, or the device is damaged. Check the serviceability of the device by disconnecting the green wire with a white stripe from the instrument cluster. With the ignition on, the arrow should return to the beginning of the scale.
Fuel gauge
The verification procedure is similar to that described above. In this case, it must be borne in mind that the plug «W» the pointer sensor is connected to the wire that goes to the fuel reserve control lamp, and to the plug «T» - a wire going to the pointer itself.
If the pointer needle is constantly at the beginning of the scale and does not deviate after shorting with the body of the tip of the wire disconnected from the plug «T» sensor, then check the device. To do this, remove the instrument panel and, with the ignition on, connect the plug to the housing, to which the pink wire with a red stripe fits. With a working device, the arrow should deviate.
Relay-interrupter of a control lamp of a parking brake
The relay-breaker is installed behind the instrument panel and serves to obtain intermittent burning of the parking brake warning lamp. The number of cycles per minute of turning on and off the relay-breaker RS-492 at a voltage of 10.8 to 15 V and a temperature of -40 to +40°C should be within 60-120, the resistance of the breaker winding is 26 ohms.
