They find out if there are any cracks or traces of contact with road obstacles or the body on the suspension parts, deformations of the transverse levers, braces, stabilizer bars and their struts and elements of the front of the body in the places of attachment of the suspension units and parts. Deformations of suspension parts and, first of all, braces and parts of the front of the body disrupt the wheel alignment angles and make it impossible to adjust them.
The condition of the rubber-metal hinges, rubber cushions, and the condition (settlement) of the upper supports of the telescopic suspension struts are checked. The rubber-metal hinges and rubber cushions are replaced in case of ruptures and one-sided "bulging" of the rubber and in case of cutting of their end surfaces.
The condition (settlement) of the upper support of the suspension strut is checked in the following order:
- place the vehicle on a level surface under a static distributed load of 320 kgf;
- by turning the steering wheel, approximately the same gap A is set (see figure 82) between the 2nd compression stroke limiter and the rubber part of the support along the entire circumference;
- using a template or calipers, measure the gap A. It should not exceed 10 mm. A more precise check of the support condition is carried out after its removal, as described in the section "Checking the technical condition of suspension units".
