For a new, tested vehicle in running order and with a payload of 320 kg, which corresponds to the weight of four people and 40 kg of cargo in the trunk, the wheel alignment angles should have the following values:
- camber 0°±30' (30'±30')*;
- toe-in (0±1) mm (1.5±1 mm)*;
- longitudinal angle of inclination of the axis of rotation 1°30'±30' (20'±30')*.
* For equipped vehicle.
Before adjusting the wheel alignment angles, check the air pressure in the tires, radial and axial runout of the wheel disks (no more than: axial - 1 mm, radial - 0.7 mm), free play (play) of the steering wheel, free play (play) in the front wheel hub bearings, as well as the technical condition of the suspension parts and units (absence of deformations, destruction and wear of rubber-metal hinges, unacceptable settlement of the upper support of the suspension strut). The detected faults are eliminated.
After installing the car on the stand, immediately before checking the angles, "squeeze" the car's suspension, applying 2-3 times a force of 40-50 kgf, directed from top to bottom, first to the rear bumper, and then to the front. In this case, the car's wheels should be parallel to the longitudinal axis of the car. The order of checking and adjusting the wheel alignment angles is as follows:
- longitudinal tilt angle of the wheel axis;
- collapse;
- convergence.
Angle of longitudinal inclination of the axis of rotation
If this angle does not correspond to the data given above, change the number of adjusting washers 9 (see figure 85), installed at both ends of the suspension braces 8. To increase the longitudinal tilt angle of the pivot axis, the number of washers on the brace in its front or rear part is reduced. And, conversely, to reduce the angle, washers are added, but only in the rear part of the brace, since this is not always possible to do from the front due to the short threaded part of the brace.
When changing the number of washers on the brace, make sure that the chamfers on the washers are facing the thrust end of the brace. The same rule is followed when installing the internal thrust washer of the rubber-metal hinge, when the adjusting washers are completely removed. If the requirements are not met, the brace fastening nuts may become loose.
Collapse
If the camber angle differs from the norm, it is adjusted. To do this, loosen the nuts of the upper and lower bolts and, turning the upper adjustment bolt 7 (see figure 85), set the required angle. After completing the adjustment, tighten the nuts to a torque of 9 kgf·m.
Convergence
If the toe-in is not correct, loosen nuts 4 (see figure 101) and, rotating the adjusting rods 5 by the same amount, set the required toe-in. Then make sure that plane B of the ball joint 2 is parallel to plane G of the support surface of the pivot arm 3, after which tighten the nuts 4 with a torque of 12.3-15.0 kgf·m.
