Note. Removal, installation, replacement of camshafts is shown on the injection engine VAZ 21124 (1.6i). Features of removing the cylinder head cover from the engine VAZ 2112 (1.5i). see in the text.
Removal
1. Remove the rear timing belt cover (see "Rear timing belt cover - removal and installation").
2. Remove the cylinder head cover (see "Cylinder head cover - removal, installation, replacement").
3. To avoid damage, remove the emergency oil pressure sensor (see "Engine Oil Pressure Sensor - Replacement"), or disconnect the wire tip from the sensor.
4. Using an 8 mm socket wrench, evenly, in half-turns, unscrew the 20 camshaft bearing housing mounting bolts.

5. Remove the camshaft bearing housing.

Note: On the VAZ 2112 (1.5i) engine, the camshaft bearing housing is removed together with the spark plug guide tubes (candle wells). We remove the pipes from the camshaft bearing housing.
6. Remove two plugs of technological holes from their seats in the cylinder head (near the rear ends of the camshafts).

7. Remove the exhaust camshaft.

8. Remove the intake camshaft.

9. Remove the seals from the camshafts
10. Inspect the camshafts. There should be no signs of severe wear, scratches, cracks, or metal drag on the journals and cams of the camshaft.
Installation
1. Lubricate the camshaft bearing journals and cams with clean engine oil.
2. Place the camshafts in the cylinder head. The camshafts are not interchangeable and are marked.
The exhaust camshaft is marked 1006014.

The intake camshaft is marked 1006015.

In addition, the intake camshaft has an additional belt.

Attention: When repairing the engine on a car, do not use a sealant with a high silicone content (silicon compounds), vapors of which can enter the cylinders through the crankcase ventilation system and further into the exhaust tract. Use a sealant that is specifically indicated on the packaging as being safe for the oxygen concentration sensor.
Caution. Do not apply too much sealant to the mating surfaces of the camshaft bearing housing. When tightening the mounting bolts, the sealant squeezed into the internal cavities of the engine may clog the oil channels.
3. Apply a thin layer of Loctite-574 sealant or similar to the cylinder head plane and the lower surface of the camshaft bearing housing around the spark plug well holes according to the following scheme:

4. Install the camshafts into the cylinder head with the keyways facing up.
5. Install the bearing housing on the cylinder head and tighten the mounting bolts evenly until the bearing housing touches the cylinder head. Finally tighten the bearing housing mounting bolts in pairs, with a torque of 8.0-10.0 N·m (0.8-1.0 kgf·m) in the sequence shown in the photo (see below).
6. Press in the camshaft seals (see "Camshaft seals - replacement") and install two plugs into the end of the cylinder head.
7. On the VAZ 2112 engine (l,5i) apply clean motor oil to the rubber seals of the spark plug guide tube rings (candle wells) and install the pipes into the head.
Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order of disassembly.
