Disassembly
Raise the rear of the car, remove the wheel and, having taken measures to prevent leakage of fluid from the tank, remove the brake drum, for which insert the wheel alignment pins into the technological holes and wrap them until the drum separates. If the drum cannot be removed in this way, the following method is allowed as a last resort.
Having unscrewed the guide pins from the drum, lubricate the drum seat on the axle shaft with engine oil, start the engine, turn on 1st gear and press the brake pedal. At the same time, safety regulations must be observed, since the drum, when separated from the axle shaft, can cause injury to those standing nearby.
Separated from lever 1 (see fig. 146) hand drive pads end of the cable 13, remove the cotter pin 5, press the finger 4 and remove the lever. Disconnect the upper 6 and lower 12 coupling springs. By turning the cups of 10 support posts, they are removed together with the posts, springs and lower cups. Remove the pads and spacer bar 3.
Disconnect the brake fluid supply pipe from the wheel cylinder and plug the holes of the cylinder and pipe. Remove wheel cylinder. When replacing the brake shield, remove the axle shaft, as indicated in sec. 2.4, and disconnect the parking brake cable.
Assembly and installation
The wheel cylinder is fixed on the brake shield, the brake fluid supply pipe is attached to it and the fitting nut is tightened to failure.
Install brake pads with spacer bar 3 (see fig. 146), then racks with springs and lower cups and, having installed the upper cups, fix them on the racks by turning in one direction or another. Make sure that the ends of the pads are correctly located in the sockets on the pistons of the wheel cylinder.
The coupling springs of the shoes are installed, the lever 1 of the manual drive of the shoes is attached to the shoe, and the tip of the cable 13 is attached to the lever. drum mounts.
If the wheel cylinder was removed during disassembly, then air is removed from the rear brake drive circuit.
