- a canopy where the temperature and humidity correspond to the parameters of the environment, there is a constant movement of air and there is no direct effect of solar radiation and precipitation;
- heated room (individual garage) with a temperature not lower than 5°C and a relative humidity of 50-70%, equipped with supply and exhaust ventilation.
If the heated room (individual garage) has inefficient supply and exhaust ventilation, and the car is operated in the winter or after washing it is put into storage without prior drying, then the destructive effects on the protective and decorative coatings increase many times.
When storing the car in winter under a canopy or in an unheated room, remove the battery and radio and store them separately; Drain the fluid from the windshield washer reservoirs.
When storing the car in a room where sunlight penetrates, cover the body and tires with a cover made of a moisture-permeable material. The use of covers made of waterproof materials (tarpaulin, film, etc.), which do not have ventilation holes in the area of the windshield and rear windows, contributes to the condensation of moisture on the surface of the body, which, if exposed for a long time, can damage the body paint.
If the car is stored in an open parking lot under a cover in winter, then the cover should not adjoin the painted surfaces of the body so that the paint is not damaged (blistering, peeling). For normal ventilation of painted surfaces, place soft pads at least 20 mm high between the cover and the body.
When preparing the vehicle for long-term storage:
- 1. Wash the car and wipe the body dry. Remove any corrosion found. Touch up the surface with damaged paint. Apply a preservative to the body.
- 2. Start and warm up the engine. Stop the engine, unscrew the spark plugs and pour 25-30 g of engine oil heated to a temperature of 70-80°C into each cylinder, then turn the crankshaft 10-15 revolutions and wrap the candles.
- 3. Disconnect the warm air intake hose from the air filter. oiled tape (paper or fabric) seal: the openings of the air intake pipes of the air filter housing; muffler outlet pipe.
- 4. Cover the engine with a tarpaulin, plastic sheeting, or oiled paper to keep dust out.
- 5. Put the car on supports so that the wheels are raised above the supporting surface.
- 6. Cover the car with a cover.
- 7. Fully charge the battery and store it in a cool dry place.
Vehicle maintenance during storage (once every two months) is as follows:
- 1. Remove the cover and inspect the vehicle. Clean and paint over the areas affected by corrosion on the painted surface.
- 2. Turn out spark plugs, turn a cranked shaft on 2-3 turns and wrap candles.
- 3. Turn the steering wheel 1-1.5 turns in each direction. Actuate (3-5 times) brake and clutch pedals, accelerator pedal and parking brake.
