Attention! Regularly check the condition of the steering, on which traffic safety depends.
Attention! When inspecting the steering, pay special attention to the condition of protective covers, caps and threaded connections.
Attention! Be sure to replace torn, cracked or lost elasticity covers and caps, otherwise water, dust and dirt that get into the nodes will quickly disable them.
Attention! Loose threaded connections must be tightened and securely locked, if provided for by the design.
Attention! If play is found in the tie rod ball joint, replace the tie rod end assembly with the joint.
Attention! To identify the causes and eliminate the detected defects, contact the specialists.
1. Check the condition of the protective covers of the steering mechanism. Replace torn, cracked or loose covers.
2. Check up a condition of protective caps of spherical hinges of steering draughts. Replace torn, cracked or loose caps.
3. Check fit (tightness) protective caps of ball joints. To do this, squeeze the cap with your fingers. If grease comes out, replace the defective cap.
4. Turning the steering wheel sharply in both directions (this should be done by an assistant), check visually and aurally the mounting of the steering mechanism (movement of the mechanism on the fastening studs and knocks are not allowed)...
5.... axial play in the hinge...
6.... reliable tightening and locking of the ball joint pin nuts and...
7....tightening the locknuts of the tie rod ends.
8. Replace bent tie rods.
9. Under the instrument panel, check the play in the spline joints of the cardan joints of the intermediate shaft of the steering column (cover must be removed).
10. Make sure that the steering wheel is securely fastened and installed correctly: when driving in a straight line, the steering wheel spoke must be located horizontally.
