Currently, the Zhiguli cars with the G-221 generator mainly use the electronic voltage regulator type 121.3702. It does not require any maintenance or adjustments, and in case of failure it should be replaced with a new one.

In the 70s and 80s, a vibration voltage regulator of the PP-380 type was used (see fig. Voltage regulator PP-380), repair and adjustment of which are described in this chapter. The diagram of the internal connections of the regulator is shown in Fig. Generator System Wiring Diagram.

Precautionary measures

Do not mix up the wires connected to the "15" and "67" plugs. If the wires are inadvertently mixed up, the regulator will stop working and the upper contacts will be permanently closed. The voltage at the generator output will increase significantly, which will lead to violent "boiling" of the battery and damage to consumers. In addition, the upper contacts will sinter and the voltage regulator will have to be replaced.

It is not allowed to connect capacitors against radio interference to the circuit between the plugs "67" of the regulator and the generator. This violates the operating conditions of the contacts, and they are damaged.

Additional power consumers should not be connected to the generator excitation winding power supply circuit, as this will greatly increase the generator voltage.

It is forbidden to check the functionality of the regulator by short-circuiting its plugs "15" and "67". In this case, the generator voltage increases and the rectifier may be damaged.

It is not recommended to remove the regulator cover unnecessarily, so as not to damage the seal. Moisture and dust getting under the cover leads to contamination, burning of contacts and, to disruption of the normal operation of the regulator. For this reason, all materials used in the regulator are tested for the absence of gas emission. Therefore, it is not allowed to install a homemade gasket under the cover.

The regulator should be kept clean and protected from accidental impacts that may affect its adjustment.

It is necessary to ensure the reliability of the connection of the regulator body to the ground through the mounting screws, since a poor connection increases the generator voltage beyond the norm.
