Pic. 44. Exhaust system:
1 - bracket for fastening the receiving pipe; 2 - gasket; 3 - receiving pipe; 4 - clamps for connecting muffler pipes; 5 - silencer suspension cushions; 6 additional muffler; 7 - main muffler.
The loss of engine power for the release of exhaust gases through the exhaust system is about 4%.
The exhaust manifold is made of cast iron and is mounted on the head studs. A ferronite gasket is used to seal the exhaust manifold and the head of the block. On the lower side, the collector has four studs for fastening the intake pipe 3.
The downpipe consists of a flange, two pipes and a gas inlet welded from two stamped halves and closed on both sides with asbestos heat-insulating gaskets and thin-walled casings. The downpipe is made of stainless steel and has increased corrosion resistance. The exhaust pipe is attached to the exhaust manifold studs with disposable self-locking nuts. To eliminate vibration and increase rigidity, the exhaust pipe is additionally attached to the bracket 1 of the engine block. A sealing gasket 2 made of asbestos reinforced with perforated steel tape is installed between the intake pipe flange and the exhaust manifold.
Additional 6 and main 7 mufflers consist of housings, perforated pipes and baffles. The main muffler is made of stainless steel for better corrosion resistance and has no welding points. All parts of the mufflers are interconnected by rolling. The additional silencer is made of steel clad with aluminum 50 microns thick.
Silencers allow you to reduce noise up to 78 dB. The main muffler has five chambers for suppressing noise in a certain range of medium-high frequencies, and the additional one has three chambers for suppressing high-frequency noise.
For thermal insulation and noise reduction, asbestos sheet or other insulating material is used from above between the body and the protective casing of the additional silencer.
The mufflers and the exhaust pipe are interconnected by clamps 4 through sealing rings made of sintered powder steel. Clamps with o-rings greatly facilitate the removal and installation of mufflers. Silencers are suspended on body brackets on five rubber pads of 5 exhaust system hangers.
The exhaust system of the VAZ-21081 car differs in the design of the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe. The vehicle is fitted with a single exhaust manifold and therefore the muffler downpipe has a single pipe. The design of the bracket and clamping of the intake pipe to the engine block has also been changed.
