The control lamp does not light up when the ignition is switched on. Control devices do not work
Possible malfunctions | Elimination Method |
1. Blown fuse in the mounting block. | 1. Replace the fuse. |
2. An open in the power supply circuit of the instrument cluster: | 2. Do the following: |
- voltage is not supplied from the mounting block to the instrument cluster; | - check wire «0» and its connections from the mounting block to the instrument cluster; |
- voltage is not supplied from the ignition switch to the mounting block. | - check wires «G», «MS» and their connections from the ignition switch to the mounting block. |
3. The ignition switch does not work, | 3. Check, replace the faulty contact part of the ignition switch. |
The control lamp does not light up when the ignition is switched on and does not light up when the engine is running. Control devices are working. The battery is empty
Possible malfunctions | Elimination Method |
1. Pilot lamp burnt out or insufficient pressure of the contacts of the lamp holder to the printed circuit board. | 1. Replace the burnt out pilot lamp, bend the contacts of the lamp socket or replace it. |
2. Open circuit between instrument cluster and plug «D» generator. | 2. Check «KB» wire and its connections from the generator to the instrument cluster. |
3. Wear or sticking of brushes, oxidation of slip rings. | 3. Replace the brush holder with brushes, wipe the rings with a cloth soaked in gasoline. |
4. Damaged voltage regulator (break between output «DF» and «weight»). | 4. Replace voltage regulator. |
5. Disconnected the wire from the output «D+» brush holder. | 5. Connect the wire. |
6. Short circuit in the positive valves. | 6. Replace rectifier unit. |
7. Soldering of the excitation winding leads from slip rings. | 7. Solder the leads or replace the alternator rotor. |
The control lamp burns brightly or glows at full intensity when the engine is running. The battery is empty
Possible malfunctions | Elimination Method |
1. Alternator drive belt slippage. | 1. Adjust belt tension. |
2. Damaged voltage regulator. | 2. Replace voltage regulator. |
3. Damaged rectifier valves. | 3. Replace the rectifier unit. |
4. Damaged excitation winding supply diodes. | 4. Replace diodes or rectifier unit. |
5. Soldering of the excitation winding leads from slip rings. | 5. Solder the leads or replace the alternator rotor. |
6. An open or short circuit in the stator winding, shorting it to «mass». | 6. Replace generator stator. |
The control lamp glows when the engine is running. The battery is being recharged
Possible malfunctions | Elimination Method |
1. Damaged voltage regulator (short circuit between output «DF» and «weight»). | 1. Replace voltage regulator. |
Increased generator noise
Possible malfunctions | Elimination Method |
1. Damaged alternator bearings. | 1. Replace rear bearing or front bearing cap. |
2. Interturn short circuit or short circuit to «mass» stator windings («howl» generator). | 2. Replace stator. |
3. Short circuit in one of the generator valves. | 3. Replace the rectifier unit. |
