The body of the car VAZ-2108 of the supporting structure is three-door all-metal welded. The car has variants of a passenger and cargo-passenger body.
The body of the car VAZ-2109 five-door. The outer and inner side panels have openings for the front and rear doors. Other parts and elements of the body frame do not structurally differ from the body frame of the VAZ-2108 car.
Body frame and plumage
The main elements of the frame include the front, floors, sidewalls, the roof with the wind window frame, the back, the load-bearing elements of the frame (spars, cross members, racks). The details of the plumage of the body include the front panels of the body and attachments (front doors, hood, tailgate, front fenders).
All parts and components of the body, except for attachments, are joined into a single whole by contact spot welding, and heavily loaded parts are additionally welded by electric arc welding.
The front of the body consists of a vertical flap 49 of the front, mudguards 4 of the front fenders, crossbars 1 and 54, panel 55 of the radiator frame, front side members 50, connectors, racks 51, air intake boxes and other small parts. The air intake box is welded to the bulkhead shield.
The body floor includes front 44, middle 38 and rear 30 floor panels. The front floor panel is trough-shaped, in the middle it has a tunnel for exhaust pipes, pipelines and fuel lines, which protects them from damage. The rear floor panel has a one-piece stamped spare wheel well. Spars are welded along the entire floor, which form with the front 50 and rear 35 spars uniform longitudinal hidden cavities along the entire vehicle, well ventilated by air. There is good access to both spars and hidden cavities. The front 46, middle 36 and rear 29 crossbars are welded to the floor, as well as amplifiers and floor extensions.
Right 7 and left 23 body sidewalls consist of outer and inner panels. The outer panels of the sidewalls are made in one piece with central and rear pillars, with side window openings. The inner panels are made integral with the outer wheel arches, with strut reinforcements. Behind the sidewalls have amplifiers and a niche (at the right side) for gasoline vapor separator, as well as grooves and flanges for door seals. To increase the rigidity between the lower parts of the outer and inner panels of the sidewalls, forming the thresholds of the doors, the lower linings 39 of the sidewalls are installed. Amplifiers are installed at the front and central pillars of the sidewalls.
The frame of the wind window is made in one piece, to which reinforcements are welded at the top and bottom. The inner pillar 16 of the wind window frame increases the rigidity of the front pillar and forms two isolated cavities.
The roof panel 10 has two amplifiers 11. At the back, two beams 18 are welded to the panel with amplifiers for hanging the rear door 17 and front beam 9 in front. Rear lights are installed on the rear panel.
The plumage of the body includes panels of the front fenders 2, the outer panels of the sidewalls and the frame 12 of the wind window, the roof panel 10, the rear panel 25, as well as the outer panels of the doors and the hood.
The main body parts are stamped from mild steel sheet The thickness of the main body parts is 0.8mm; outer panels of doors and front fenders - 0.7 mm; amplifiers - 1-1.2 mm. Small parts are stamped from steel with a thickness of 0.8-2.5 mm.
The front fenders 2 are attached to the body frame with eight self-tapping bolts; four along the upper flange of the wing to the mudguards, one bolt each at the front bottom and rear bottom and two bolts to the front pillars under the wings. Sealing gaskets under the wings reduce the vibration of the wings when the car is moving.
At the front, the body is covered with a radiator lining made of microporous polyurethane foam with the addition of finely ground fiberglass. The cladding is painted to match the body color, fastened with screws to the body at the bottom at the ends, front and top under the hood.
Hood 6 consists of outer and inner panels made of 0.8 mm thick sheet steel. The panels are interconnected by bending the flanges with glue. Expanding gaskets are installed between the panels. The hood is hung on hinges along the rear edge. Ahead, the hood rests on rubber buffers.
The front doors 24 and 28 and the rear 26 of the VAZ-2109 vehicles consist of external and internal panels, window frames and amplifiers. Each door is hung on two hinges, which are bolted to the body pillars with fixed links. The movable hinge links are welded to the door reinforcements. Due to the enlarged holes for the door mounting bolts, a slight adjustment of the gap between the door and the body is allowed.
The rear door 17 is hung on the rear beam 18 of the roof on two hinges. In the open position, the door is held by two gas-filled stops. The stops are hinged to the body and the door. A piston is inserted into the tubular upper body of the stop, the rod of which exits the body through the seal. Between the piston and the bottom of the housing there is a special liquid and gas that lubricates the piston and rod. Since the gas is under pressure in the housing, disassembly of the stop is not allowed.
