The body of the VAZ-2108 car is a three-door all-metal welded load-bearing structure. The car has passenger and cargo-passenger body options.

The VAZ-2109 car body is five-door. The outer and inner side panels have openings for the front and rear doors. Other parts and elements of the body frame are structurally no different from the body frame of the VAZ-2108 car.

Body frame and plumage



The main elements of the frame include the front, floors, sides, roof with windshield frame, rear, and frame strength elements (side members, cross members, pillars). The body plumage parts include the front panels of the body and the mounted units (front doors, hood, tailgate, front fenders).

All body parts and assemblies, except for attachments, are connected into a single whole by contact spot welding, and heavily loaded parts are additionally welded by electric arc welding.

The body front consists of a vertical front shield 49, mudguards 4 of the front wings, crossbars 1 and 54, panel 55 of the radiator frame, front side members 50, connectors, pillars 51, air intake box and other small parts. The air intake box is welded to the front shield.

The body floor includes front 44, middle 38 and rear 30 floor panels. The front floor panel is trough-shaped, has a tunnel in the middle for exhaust pipes, pipelines and fuel lines, which protects them from damage. The rear floor panel has a one-piece stamped niche for a spare wheel. Along the entire floor, side members are welded, which form uniform longitudinal hidden cavities along the entire car with the front 50 and rear 35 side members, well ventilated with air. There is good access to both the side members and the hidden cavities. The front 46, middle 36 and rear 29 crossbars, as well as reinforcements and floor extensions are welded to the floor.


The right 7 and left 23 body sidewalls consist of outer and inner panels. The outer sidewall panels are made as one-piece parts with central and rear pillars, with side window openings. The inner panels are made as a single piece together with the outer wheel arches, with pillar reinforcements. The rear sidewalls have reinforcements and a niche (at the right side) for a gasoline vapor separator, as well as grooves and flanges for door seals. To increase rigidity, lower sidewall trims 39 are installed between the lower parts of the outer and inner sidewall panels that form the door sills. Reinforcements are installed at the front and central sidewall pillars.

The windscreen frame is made in one piece, to which reinforcements are welded at the top and bottom. The internal pillar 16 of the windscreen frame increases the rigidity of the front pillar and forms two isolated cavities.

The roof panel 10 has two reinforcements 11. Two beams 18 with reinforcements for hanging the rear door 17 are welded to the panel at the rear, and a front beam 9 at the front. The rear panel 25 has an upper crossbar, is welded to the rear crossbar, rear floor and body sides. The rear lights are mounted on the rear panel.

The body plumage includes front wing panels 2, outer side panels and windshield frames 12, roof panel 10, rear panel 25, as well as outer door and hood panels.

The main body parts are stamped from low-carbon sheet steel. The thickness of the main body parts is 0.8 mm; outer door panels and front wings - 0.7 mm; amplifiers - 1-1.2 mm. Small parts are stamped from steel with a thickness of 0.8-2.5 mm.

The front fenders 2 are attached to the body frame with eight self-tapping bolts; four on the upper flange of the wing to the mudguards, one bolt at the front bottom and one at the rear bottom, and two bolts to the front pillars under the wings. Sealing pads under the wings reduce vibration of the wings when the car is moving.

The front of the body is covered with a radiator grille made of microporous polyurethane foam with the addition of finely ground fiberglass. The grille is painted to match the body color, and is attached with screws to the body at the bottom at the ends, in front, and at the top under the hood.

The bonnet 6 consists of outer and inner panels made of 0.8 mm thick sheet steel. The panels are connected to each other by bending the flanges with glue. Expanding gaskets are installed between the panels. The bonnet is hung on hinges along the rear edge. The bonnet rests on rubber buffers at the front.

Front doors 24 and 28 and rear doors 26 of VAZ-2109 cars consist of external and internal panels, window frames and amplifiers. Each door is hung on two hinges, which are fixed with bolts to the body pillars. Movable hinge links are welded to the door amplifiers. Due to the enlarged holes for the door mounting bolts, a slight adjustment of the gap between the door and the body is allowed.

The tailgate 17 is hung on the rear beam 18 of the roof with two hinges. In the open position, the door is held by two gas-filled stops. The stops are hinged to the body and the door. A piston is inserted into the tubular upper body of the stop, the rod of which comes out of the body through the seal. Between the piston and the bottom of the body there is a special liquid and gas that lubricates the piston and rod. Since the gas is under pressure in the body, disassembling the stop is not allowed.
