The body is painted with three to four layers of synthetic enamel. The body is covered with bumpers at the front and back. The bumper covers are made of black microporous polyurethane foam with the addition of crushed fiberglass and are attached to aluminum beams. The bumpers are mounted on the body frame using brackets. The grille 1 and the radiator grille, like the bumper covers, are made of polyurethane foam and painted to match the body color. The factory sign 2 is attached to the radiator grille; it is made of plastic under "chrome" on a matte background.
Plastic edgings 8 of black color are installed on the body drainage channels and are attached due to their elasticity. The central pillars of the VAZ-2108 car are covered from the outside with plastic facings 7 of matte black color. The exhaust ventilation grilles of the body interior are made along the rear edges of the facings. Ornaments 3 are attached to the right facing of the central pillar and the rear panel. The inscriptions on the plastic ornaments are made to look like "chrome". The background of the ornaments has embossing.
The rear wheels have aprons 5, which are attached with strips 4 to the body brackets.
The interior trim of the body is selected in shape and color in a single style that meets modern aesthetic requirements. All finishing materials of the linings and upholstery have a matte surface that does not produce glare.
The color of the door trim, seats, and side panels is selected depending on the color of the body. Black color has door handles, body rear trim and upholstery, rear door trim, pillar trim, rear shelf and shelf supports, floor mats, threshold trim. Instrument panel trim and panel lining are black or brown.
The roof trim 26 is made of polyurethane foam, integrally molded with fiberglass on both sides, to reduce weight and provide thermal and noise insulation. On the interior side, the trim is covered with a PVC film backed with polyurethane foam. A plastic overlay is attached to the trim along the rear edge. The roof trim is secured in front by fastening the sun visors with self-tapping screws, on the sides by handrails, in the center by a lamp, and at the rear by four buttons.
The upholstery of pillars 22, 24, 27 of the body is made of ABS plastic with a thickness of 2 mm. The upholstery of the 22 windshield pillars is fastened with three self-tapping screws, the upholstery of the 24 central pillar - with a hook and a button. The upholstery of the 27 rear pillar is fastened with two screws and a seat belt fastener.
The side panel trims 19 and 20 are made of two parts to facilitate dismantling and installation and are fastened with self-tapping screws. The middle side panel trims 23 and the front door trims 21 are fastened into the openings of the inner panels with plastic holders fixed to the inner side of the trims.
Door trims 21, side panels 19, 20 and 23, rear wheel arches 25 are made of ABS plastic.
The instrument panel 47 is made of energy-absorbing material and consists of the panel itself, made of 3 mm thick plastic, and a cover that is attached to the top of the panel. The cover is made of a metal frame and covered with an energy-absorbing layer of polyurethane foam. The cover is covered with a decorative film on top.
The floors of the passenger compartment and luggage compartment are covered with carpets 33 and 32 in black, molded from lightweight non-woven material with a polyethylene base. In the door openings, carpet 33 is pressed against the threshold trims, made of black polypropylene. Each threshold trim is fastened with six self-tapping screws.
Body sealing
To ensure the tightness of the VAZ-2108 and VAZ-2109 body, rubber seals of various profiles, sealing mastics, rubber plugs for technological holes are used, and all mating parts of the body are carefully adjusted.
The air intake box is sealed against ingress of smoky air from the engine compartment by a rubber seal 15 installed on the upper flange of the box. The seal has a metal frame, the elasticity of which ensures its reliable fit on the body flange. The seal 18 of the rear door opening has a similar design.
The seals of the 13 front door openings are made of sponge rubber in the form of a tube to which a plastic facing edge with a metal perforated frame is welded. The metal frame ensures the fastening of the seal on the flange of the door opening. The inner part of the seal is connected to the atmosphere by holes in the sponge rubber, located every 300 mm.
The openings of the windshield, rear door window and side windows are sealed with rubber seals 14, 16, 9 and 10, which have special tabs for reliable sealing.
The upper seals of the front door drop-down windows, seals 17 and 11 of the guide grooves and lower seals 12 of the windows are made of special profile rubber, on the sealing surface of which pile is glued to reduce the friction force of the windows. The pile of the lower seals 12 also prevents the seal from turning and squeaking when the window is lowered. Water that has leaked between the lower seals and the drop-down windows flows inside the door, from where it flows out through the drain holes.
