Removal and installation
Loosen and unscrew the nuts with which the ball pins of the side rods are attached to the levers on the steering knuckles.
Puller 67.7824.9516 (pic. 5-10) remove the ball pins from the conical sockets on the levers.
Loosen and unscrew the nuts securing the ball pins of the middle and side rods to the bipod and to the pendulum arm. Using puller 67.7824.9516, remove the pins from their respective sockets on the levers and remove the rods.
Install steering rods in the reverse order of removal. Tighten all ball stud nuts with a torque wrench followed by cotter pins. If the cutout of the nut does not coincide with the hole for the cotter pin, then tighten the nut to an angle less than 60°to ensure the cotter pin.
After installation, adjust the toe-in of the front wheels.
Check and repair
Check the condition of the protective caps 3 (pic. 5-11), as described above (see «Inspection, testing and steering adjustment»). Replace damaged protective caps.
Check on the radial and axial clearance the condition of the spherical joints of the rods. If you feel the free play of pin 1 in housing 3, as well as if dirt, sand get into the joint, if corrosion appears on the ball pin, when the bearing stroke is fully used, replace the joint with a thrust tip.
