Attention! We carry out work on a viewing ditch or a lift.
We replace the seals of the drive shafts of the front and rear axles by disconnecting the flanges of the cardan shafts (see Removing the cardan shaft). The oil seal of the drive shaft of the transfer case is changed only after its dismantling. The operations for replacing all three oil seals are the same - we will show them using the rear axle drive shaft oil seal as an example.
We insert two bolts into the holes of the flange and screw the nuts onto them.
head «at 24» unscrew the flange fastening nut, holding it from turning with a mounting blade inserted between the bolts.
Let's take the puck..
...and a flange.
We pry the gland with a screwdriver..
...and take it off.
We lubricate the working surface of the new oil seal with Litol-24 grease...
... and press it in with a suitable piece of pipe.
Attention! Transfer case shaft seals are the same size. At the same time, they have different directions of oil-cutting notches.
We install the dismantled parts in the reverse order. Tighten the flange nut with a torque wrench to the prescribed torque (see Tightening torques for threaded connections). Checking the oil level (see Change of oil) and top up if necessary.
